FUN MM: The New $10 Bill will feature a Woman!

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/06/18/woman-will-be-picked-for-10-bill-redesign-treasury-says/?intcmp=latestnews

Who would you put on it? Susan B. Anthony and Sacagawea are already on coins.

I would choose someone like Clara Barton the founder of the American Red Cross. Or, Harriet Tubman.

  • I think Harriet Tubman would be a great choice. Or Sandra day Oconnor or a first woman somewhere in government. U.S. Senator or something like that would be a great choice too.

  • It is a tough choice but I think my vote is for Harriet Tubman.

That's cool.  Sounds like it could turn into a stunt for the sake of political correctness though, and that kind of annoys me.  It's never bothered me that the bills all feature men.  Even Hamilton on the current $10 - his role was pretty damn important in the history of American banking.  But I guess most people don't know who he is, so he's easy to boot off the paper.

I would second Sandra Day O'Connor, though I guess that could be sort of weird because she's still alive.

And again, if they took a poll... I bet most people don't know who she is (which is sad).

Apparently they are going to keep Hamilton on as either part of the other side of the bill, or as a different version.

I also learned that it is required by law to be someone who is deceased, which rules out SDO. Otherwise I do think she'd be another great choice!
  • I like the idea of Clara Barton but my vote would have to be for Harriet Tubman, although I didn't really like the "prototype" photo I saw of the bill featuring her face. Let's hope it's at least a nice looking portrait for whoever it is!

Yeah I read that after I posted.  If it's not coming out until 2020 though, it's possible she may be a candidate (unfortunately).  She's quite old.  I do hope she's still with us though and is ruled out for that reason.

I also wouldn't mind an artist or author.  Somebody who contributed culturally.

I was also really surprised they are replacing Hamilton.  I mean, if anybody deserves to be on money, it is the father of our banking system!  Replacing Jackson on the $20s would be a better choice...especially since there is a lot of contention in our country about him being honored in that way.

I think it should be Susan B. Anthony.  Especially since the new $10 bill is specifically being scheduled to come out on the 100th anniversary of the Constitutional amendment giving women the right to vote.  Yes, she was previously on a coin, but that is a coin that was only minted from 1979-1981 and then for one year again in 1999.  They are no longer minted and haven't been for over 15 years.
