Re: Are you on a diet?

  • I'm Low carb, but I cheat all the time. I don't think this is going to work out for me. I'm starting up the gym again this week. Blah. I never enjoy working out, at all. I wish I got a gym high, I just don't.

  • Not at the moment, but I've been successful on Weight Watchers before and plan to start again. I really believe that it works.

  • Yes! I'd love to lose about 25 lbs. I've been trying to incorporate more veggies into my diet and eat out less (though this is more for MM reasons but any weight loss is a bonus!) I've been buying bags of different kinds of chopped salads and taking those to work or eating them for dinner. Dole has several that I like and Costco has two good options as well. I've also virtually cut out alcohol since TTC, and feel significantly better because of that.

  • Not a diet per se, but I do try and eat unprocessed as much as possible. Obviously I'm not perfect but we try.

I love Zumba but lately I've been swimming, walking, and doing yoga. I try to get some form of exercise most days of the week.

I don't believe in diets but I watch what I eat. I try to go for fruits and veggies as much as possible, and lean meats. It's important to incorporate protein into each meal and snack; most women don't eat enough protein.

As for working out... it's my jam! I love exercise. It's good for my body and soul. I run and do boot camp and sprinkle in the occasional hike.

ETA: If you're looking for inspiration you should check out the Mayo Clinic's book on healthy weight. It will teach you the basics of incorporating healthy eating into your lifestyle without dieting. I highly recommend it!
  • I'm on a lifestyle change instead of a "diet". I'm sure that sounds dumb, but I can't stick with diets. I'm trying to eat more fruits and veggies and less processed junk food. I'm trying to eat less carbs, which is good for my PCOS, but I effing love carbs! I cold turkey cut out Coke 3 months ago (I used to drink up to 2 20oz bottles and 2-3 cans per day!). I'm also watching my portion size, and "listening" to my stomach to tell me when I'm full. I still eat pizza, cheeseburgers, some pasta, some sweets, and we still go out to eat. I find that I don't deny myself anything I want because I know I won't stick to my plan. I may not each as much of whatever food as I previously would have, but I still get to eat some...kwim?

I mainly exercise on the elliptical, but I much prefer to be active outdoors doing things like hiking, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, gardening, etc... versus go to a gym. Two weeks ago I went to my grandparents' place in the N GA mountains, and I ran a chainsaw cutting down trees and hauling off logs for 2.5 days. That was so much better than going to the gym!

I have lost 21lbs in 3 months, and I hope to lose about 75 more before TTC next Spring (I have tried to change my siggy like 4 times, and it won't save).

I've been on a diet for about 20 years.

Right now I'm doing Weight Watchers and I really like it.  I can eat anything I want, I'm just really careful about portion size and tracking my points.  I've lost 30 lbs since early February. I feel like I'm actually starting to enjoy eating healthy.

I'm not a huge fan of exercise, but started walking last week.  I did 17 km in total last week.  I just need to keep it up and make it a habit :)

A huge congratulations to you on your weight loss! That is absolutely incredible!

  • Right now I am just trying to stop eating so much processed food. Things like boxes of kraft mac, and all the ho-hos and such. We are using fresh veggies and meat to make our own meals rather than buying pre frozen lasagnas, and casseroles.

I need to get into working out but H and I are so happy to finally have some time off from work that we have both only been doing things we enjoy, and the gym is not one of them. Haha.

  • I have been on a diet all of my adult life.  I get bored.  I don't like going to the gym.

I realized I  will never be the size I want to be.  But I am trying to make healthier choices.  I drink water 99% of the time.

I did try WW couple years ago, and it worked.  Maybe I will sign up again.

  • I'm another advocate for WW. I got to eat what I wanted, just watched portions.

You get your exercise chasing around those two toddlers everyday, don't you? ;)

  • I lost a bunch of weight (pre-DH) both watching what I ate and exercising a ton.

Right now, I've gone fairly gluten-free to see how my body reacts and still watching what I eat. The exercise part has fallen by the wayside because of my stupid foot. And the fact that I hate summer.

Right now I'm just trying to eat more fruit and dark leafy greens.  I absolutely hate cooking, so if I can't get it for take out or cook it in the microwave, I'm probably not going to make it.  I'm still in the "minimal effort" stage of getting healthier, where just remembering to put my fitbit back on after charging it is considered a win.

DH & I are also in a weird two week period right now... he only gets 10 months of paychecks from his school district, and I haven't started getting paychecks with my increased hours from my second job.  It's frustrating, because it's easier and less expensive (in my head) to buy Chinese takeout that's going to feed me for at least four meals than it is to slap down the money for all the ingredients I need to make meals at home.

Sorry, not very inspirational... I need inspiration myself!

  • I just try to make healthy food choices and get out of the house as much as possible.
  • honestly, I hate the word diet, it implies that it's a temporary thing, when really controling your weight is an all the time thing.
I follow a healthy life-style. I shop the perimeter of the grocery store (produce, deli, meat/seafood, eggs, dairy...) with an occasional venture down the asiles for bread, cereal, pasta, or some spice or ingredient for a recipe. focus on whole grains for boxed products you do buy.
I find most the recipes we enjoy from cooking light.

I exercise 5-6 days a week, 3-4 with intense exercise for at least 45 minutes (running, zumba, cycling, etc.) the others with moderate exercise (yoga, less intense dance, pilates...) my "off" day always includes a walk with the dog.

I enjoy what I eat, in moderation, when extreme hunger strikes between meals I always start with a glass of water and some fruit (apple, banana, or something in season) or veggies like carrots or celery. if that doesn't fix it then I reach for something more heafty (spoonful of peanut butter, almonds, cheese)

I need motivation too. Having something to get healthy for always helps me. A half marathon, a family reunion or a girls trip to Mexico ;)
