    1. How MM was your weekend? Great! our bathroom makeover and redoing the kitchen floor only cost $175 instead of the $250 we had budgeted.

    2. Any progress towards goals? Nope! We are back to our (financially) goal free summer.

    3.  If you could share a meal with any 4 individuals, living or dead, who would they be? Deceased father, my mom and brother, and H. He never met my dad, and I would really love for a couple of hours with my family all together.

    1.  Good!  I had to work all weekend, so didn't spend a dime with the exception of $115 at the grocery store on Sunday.

    2.  About $700 toward H's student loan.

    3.  My dad.  He's been gone for nearly 8 years now.  Plus my mom and brother.  Edit:  @alyssa32713, I'm stealing yours by adding my H too.  They never met either and would have loved each other.

    1. How MM was your weekend? Pretty good- Target ($37), Trader Joe's ($50). Sunday we went to brunch out of town (with DH, girls, my parents, DH's parents) so we haven't gone grocery shopping yet.

    2. Any progress towards goals? Nothing went to savings this week, but DH got a new job (posted on Friday)! This will dramatically change our income over the long term since he'll reach step 16 (highest step based on the current contract) at his new district in 11 years and will be making much more $ than his current district that has 27 steps. Short term, it puts a few extra thousand in our pocket every year but makes DH very happy and he feels like his teaching career has a purpose. So happy for him- he's worked really hard for it.

    3.  If you could share a meal with any 4 individuals, living or dead, who would they be? My grandpa (passed away very unexpectedly in 2008), DH, and the girls (DD#1 was born almost 2 years after he passed away so he never got to meet them).

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?
Not bad, all budgeted for. Groceries - $58, birthday gift - $25, wedding gift, travel (gas) and babysitter (not yet totaled but was estimated within budget). Father's Day gifts for our dads - $50. We delayed celebrating Father's Day for H until this coming weekend because we had a busy weekend.

    2. Any progress towards goals?
$800 in savings. We both get paid this week so hopefully more will go in later this week.

    3. If you could share a meal with any 4 individuals, living or dead, who would they be?
My maternal grandparents. My grandfather was such an amazing person but passed away when I was 9. I would love to share a meal with them like old times.

  • 1. Not great. I under-budgeted by about $40 for Father's Day, planned poorly and had to get lunch out on Saturday ($8 at Chipotle) and drove a whole tank of gas ($30) between diving, a bridal shower, and a work commitment in southern RI. H grocery shopped unattended and spent about $30 just for one fancy meal, so we'll also be over on groceries when I finish up today.

    2. I signed up for monthly autopay for our homeowners' insurance, freeing up the $400 I had put aside for use towards goals. We put half in the e-fund and half toward summer travel (nothing crazy, just weddings and weekends here and there).

    3. H, my deceased grandparents, and his deceased stepbrother.

    1. Much better than the last few weekends. My family finally went back home after 2 weeks visiting/staying with us, and DH's parents are in Orlando visiting family. Since it was just DH and I we only spent $40 on groceries and enjoyed having a quiet house all to ourselves.

    2. We opened up a new savings account that we can put money into for a DP on our next house. We still need to figure out exactly how much we need to put away each month but the goal is to be in our forever home with at least a 20% DP (not counting anything we get from selling our current home) within 2-3 years.

    3. My maternal grandparents and DH's maternal grandparents. I grew up with my grandparents and miss them, and I only got the chance to meet DH's grandma once. I never got to meet DH's grandpa, but I know DH has always looked up to him and I'd love to get to know the man that was such an influence for my DH.
  • 1. Pretty average. $50 for dinner out, red box, and hard cider for date night on friday, $70 for groceries on Sunday.

    2. Nothing this week.

    3. Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., my late former boss who was a state legislator who fought for civil rights in the 60s, and Jon Stewart.
  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Weekend was really good. We had a party for dh and ds birthdays, so the groceries were a bit for that, but I also sold some furniture that pretty much covered it all!

    2. Any progress towards goals? Nothing financial, but our patio is almost done! We need the gutters and then sprinkler guys to come and then we will be done! Starting to work on a new budget to allow us to save a ton before baby 2 comes in February. We will get a big head start on that next month when dh gets 3 pay checks.

    3.  If you could share a meal with any 4 individuals, living or dead, who would they be? 1. My grandfather who passed. 2. Grandma of course. 3. Ds because they never met. 4. My mom.

  • 1) We spent about $150 on groceries (but we hadn't been to the store in almost two weeks) and $40 on a birthday present for DH's Godson.  We had Chipotle for dinner on Friday ($14) so technically speaking not so bad and we stayed on/under budget.

    2) We had lots of heavy rain on Saturday which was the end of a very rainy week.  As I went to leave for the grocery store I noticed we had water in the garage stemming from a leak in the roof, so we need to call someone to get that fixed before it causes more damage.  We will also be taking money out of savings this week to have a dead tree cut down ($675) but the good news is they will cut it down for firewood for us so it will save us a little bit of money down the road in firewood costs once it gets seasoned.

    3) This is a fairly common question and one I struggle with.  I would probably go back and meet my ancestor who came over on the Mayflower to hear first hand what it was like, Ronald Reagan, my old neighbor who died of a heartattack a few years ago (like a grandfather to me) and another "adopted" grandfather from the church I grew up in who died about 5 years ago.  I was not blessed with caring/loving grandparents by blood, but I never felt the lack because my sister and I had two wonderful older couples who loved and cared for us like we were their own.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

Great!  We visited some friends, so spent $30 on eating out for dinner and ice cream with them.  Then $45 on groceries.

    2. Any progress towards goals?

Paid all of our bills that are due for the rest of the month, and we still have 3 more paychecks to come in.  Woot!  So far we're set up to have $2,500 to put toward debt.  So exciting!

Also, my brothers' land was officially transferred into my name on Friday.  I am now the owner of 90 acres of farmland worth $750,000. :-D

Because of this, we need to do some changing around of our insurance to cover this land and get us covered enough with liability.  So some/or most of that $2,500 will be going toward getting our insurance switched over and paid in full for the year (home, farm, umbrella, and auto).

    3.  If you could share a meal with any 4 individuals, living or dead, who would they be?

My deceased brother, our baby that we lost, and my parents.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Not too bad, mostly budgeted. We went to a wedding 2.5 hours away, so there was a little extra cost of gas (we got great gas mileage, so not a huge cost). We packed homemade sub sandwiches to eat when we got into town, which came out of the grocery budget rather than adding more to the eating out "budget." $112 for hotel, an unknown amount for alcohol for cash bar & after party (will figure out exactly how much tonight), $22 for Sunday brunch and $6-7ish for ice cream on the square after our walk along the river.

    2. Any progress towards goals? Not last week. This week we'll determine what to put toward our remaining student loans.

    3.  If you could share a meal with any 4 individuals, living or dead, who would they be? I'd love to talk to many people from history, but I'd choose my maternal grandparents and great-grandparents. I'd love to ask a billion questions about their experiences and our family history.

  • 1- I'm honestly not sure what all we spent because it was a busy weekend.  We went to see Jurassic World on friday night and snuck in food for dinner.  I had to play an out of town wedding Saturday and got some food for dinner on the way back home.  Yesterday was Fathers day and we spent half the day at the indoor pool because it was raining and then picked up some food to grill out for dinner.

    2 - not this week

3 - I would share a meal with my grandpa (deceased), grandma, aunt (deceased), my mom.

  • 1. Pretty good considering all we did. Spent $50 on groceries, $70 on a boat rental with another couple and $20 on ordering pizza. We went to the state park again for free and used a Groupon for the boat rental. Also bought a Groupon pass at 50% for tickets to the drive-in theater so we can see Jurassic World and Inside Out.

    2. No, temporarily stashing some extra cash into our short-term savings. We're going on vacation next week so I'm trying to plan ahead and make sure our vacation savings and budget are realistic. We're going to see my parents and go on a family trip that they're funding so the good part is that we won't have to pay for lodging although we'll be driving 7 hours there, then an additional 4 hours for the family trip, then back from both of those so the miles will add up. I also tend to spend more whenever we visit my parents because the malls and stores out there are so much better than my current town and I go out for drinks/dessert a lot to catch up with old friends that still live there. Not to mention I'm already scheduled for an appointment with my favorite hair stylist back home. I'm going to have to try hard to control my spending.

    3. I would share a meal with my maternal grandmother and my H so that he could meet her since she passed years before we met, and my paternal grandfather because I never had the chance to meet him. For the 4th person I would also love to meet H's late maternal grandfather. I've seen so many photos and heard so many stories about his travels around the world.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

Great!  Spent $95 at Costco for groceries, but that was it.

    2. Any progress towards goals?

$2000 to savings, but that will be wiped out (along with the rest of the account!) when I close on my investment properties in (hopefully) 2-3 weeks.

    3.  If you could share a meal with any 4 individuals, living or dead, who would they be?

Like most of you, I would want to use this as an opportunity to connect with a deceased relative.  I would choose my father to meet my husband and my BIL, of course my sister and mother would want to be there also.

But for a more fun answer, I'd choose Alan Greenspan, Warren Buffett, Judge Judy, and Jon Stewart.  I would love to pick the brains of the first two...really three...and Jon Stewart would offer humorous insight.  I just love Judge Judy, even aside from her tv show.

I saw footage of her before "Judge Judy", when she was still a family court judge in the Bronx.  Her personality, mannerisms, and even the phrases she used were exactly the same.  I had always wondered if she used a persona for tv, but apparently not!  I'd also love to hear her perspective about what it was like to go to law school and become a young lawyer at a time when very few women were in that field.
