I lost my Kindle!!!!

I just need to vent somewhere where people will understand!

I put it in the seatback pocket on a 1-hour flight home yesterday, and I forgot to grab it when I got up. It was right there with my boarding pass next to it, and I realized about 2 minutes after I got off the plane, but because of the airport design, they wouldn't let me go back for it. I asked the airline staff at baggage claim and tried phoning the airline, but they both redirected me to the airport Lost & Found desk. And they said they wouldn't be able to do anything unless it was turned in, so I should call back the next day.

I called back today, and no luck. They told me to send an email, but so far I still haven't heard anything.

I'm so annoyed with myself, because it was a stupid mistake. And I'm so annoyed with the situation, because if I had realized 30 seconds earlier, I could have just gone back to the plane and grabbed it. Ugh!

I've already deregistered it on Amazon in case someone found it and decided not to turn it in.

I'm trying to console myself that the travel insurance will probably pay for most of it, since it's less than a year old. And the case was a little scratched, so it's not such a bad thing to have to replace it.

but the beauty of an e-reader is that when you a buy a new one, you just log in and *Viola!* all your books are back.

That sucks. I am glad you deregistered it. You might let Amazon know that it was lost, too, so they know if someone tries to use it they would be alerted to the shenanigans.

Oh no! I would be lost without mine for even a few days. I hope travel insurance does end up paying for it.

Not quite that easy. I have over 1000 Kindle books, but I like to keep just a few hundred on my reader at a time to make it easier to browse. It still takes a while to choose and download 250 titles.

Luckily I was able to switch back to the Kindle app on my phone before I even got home from the airport! Too bad that won't work when I want to read outside.

The latest update:

It's not at my local airport.

The next step is to contact Lost & Found at each airport the plane went to after my flight. So far I've heard back from Aalborg who didn't have it, but there is an e-reader in the lost items database at Copenhagen. I'm not extremely hopeful, though. It wasn't logged until yesterday, but it says it was found on Sunday. We'll see what they say.

The plan went back to Copenhagen and then on to Nice the next morning, but surely they would have found it before then.

It seems weird for a cleaning crew or passenger to take a Kindle. An iPad I can see, but a Kindle? I guess I always think of the type of person who would want an e-reader as being fairly honest. I don't know why I think that.
