Re: Thursday Randoms

  • We are less than a week away from JULY! How did that happen?! Summer goes by so fast.

  • @SnShne322 How is the new job going? How about your online classes?

I recently started a program for a masters in computer science. I was thinking I would just do it all online, but there's a discussion component for each class that is cramping my style. Mostly, it is because everyone posts last minute. I think I might end up switching to taking classes in person.

  • Yesterday I "acted" in a promotional video for a software product we use at work. I was giggling because now they have a crazy purple haired woman talking up their product. I totally asked them if they were suuuuuuure they didn't mind the punky hair. It was a weird experience, complete with boom mikes and slates cracking in my face. Not my typical day at work.

  • Our Blu Ray player is possessed. It suddenly started turning itself on and off and ejecting the disc tray and then sucking it back in for no reason. I'm either going to call a priest or go to Best Buy. Probably the latter.

It's going good @duxcaelo !  Thanks for asking.  I expect to be mostly up to speed by June close next month, but it's SUCH a different company and I think it fits with my working style better and I'm going to be learning a ton.

I'm finishing up my fourth class, but it will be my last for a bit.  I lost my tuition benefits at my last job (which thankfully they were kind enough to not make me repay) and I have to be here a year to get them again.  They are almost double my last job so it's worth it to wait since my current position doesn't require it.  I should be done or at least mostly done by the time I'm ready for that. I hate the wait, but it's going to save me a ton, so I can't complain.

I'm liking the online format for the most part, but the discussion components SUCK.  That and there are so many one uppers that I just can't deal sometimes.  I was really worried that I wouldn't learn well online, but I think I've found I'm learning so much better since I'm leading most of it.  That and not having the commute (40 minutes each way) and the freedom to finish at any point during the week has really cinched it for me.  What's your commute like if you didn't want to do it online?

Aidan Turner. Super hot. He was in the British version of
Being Human, and he played Kili in the Hobbit movies. He's now on Masterpiece Classic's show Poldark. I lurve him. That's a shot from the show.

I am so glad to hear that you are liking it! It sounds like it was just the kind of change you have been looking for.

I understand about waiting to get the new benefits! I've been casually keeping an eye out for a new position which might offer more tuition benefits annually. As it is, my current employer will potentially reimburse me for up to half, which is better than nothing, but still a lot out of pocket and will likely take me five or six years to finish at that rate, since I'm only going to take two classes a year. It would be great to get someone to cover the whole thing and be able to finish sooner.

If I could take away the discussion component (or just change it to post here if you have questions), I love the format of the online class. It's nice to plan out being able to watch lectures, reading, and all the assignments on my own time. I understand about the one uppers, there are some of those in my class as well. My commute would only be about 20 minutes or so, which isn't too bad, with classes either 4:30-7:10 or 7:20-10:00 one night a week.

Ross Poldark returns home after American Revolutionary War and rebuilds his life with a new business venture, making new enemies and finding a new love where he least expects it.

We watched the first episode last night (it aired Sunday). It was fantastic!

  • Waiting to hear if I am going to be hired full time is suddenly stressing me out. I talked to my boss about my interest last week and I hadn't heard anything more and I was fine with that. Today we had a group meeting and he just said he hadn't heard anything more, the posting had been up for a week, they were still deciding what they were going to do and he hoped to hear "soon". Well, he's going on vacation next week so suddenly it's all I can think about. Ugh. I just want to get this over with. Yes, I have a contract extension until December so that's awesome but what about hiring me full time?
Whether or not you find your own way, you're bound to find some way. If you happen to find my way, please return it, as it was lost years ago. I imagine by now it's quite rusty.”
