A good article re. saving money on food

Since there have been a lot of posts about ways to save money at the grocery store lately, I thought I'd share this article.  It has a lot of good tips that are a little bit outside of the box.  I realized we're already doing a lot of these, particularly the high use of eggs, rescuing wilty greens, and varying our proteins.  H always makes his own burgers, and I think he might be interested in the recipe at the end of the article to stretch the ground beef farther.

  • Good article.  I feel we already do most of those things.  We try to vary our proteins.  We also have a large deep freezer so we can stock up on good proteins, fruits and veggies from the store, farmers market and our garden, to enjoy later.

Deep freezer is definitely on my "to get" list! Just waiting on the right deal. This is our first year with a big garden and it will be really interesting to see what the yields are. I'd love to eventually stock tomato sauce for the winter.
  • I think there are some great ideas in this article. We rarely buy meat (I'm vegetarian and DH only eats meat once in a blue moon--usually if we go out somewhere to eat), and I feel like that helps us save a lot on groceries.

Also love the tip on freezing cooked grains--my mom recently told me about that and it has become such a time saver! I love having quinoa, rice, etc all ready to go at a moments notice. I just wish we had room for a freezer!

By the way, that polenta recipe at the end looks delicious! Reminds me of something my grandma used to cook. I think I know what I'm making for dinner tonight! :)
