London- sort of BR

I booked a trip to London this fall and ever since I've been in the mood for books with some good London scenes in them....any suggestions? I prefer something light and fun.

Also, anyone who's traveled to London....recommendations on things to see/eat/do? I'm so excited! We already booked the Warner Bro Harry Potter Studio Tour and I'm thinking of rereading before I go.

Re: London- sort of BR

  • What are you into? Do you want touristy or nerdy? I love London and have been there many times. "Her Fearful Symmetry" has some wonderful London scenes
  • Thank you, I will check this out. Definitely into the nerdy, creative and unique. I will check out the main touristy sites as well but I'd love to know hidden gems in the city!
  • There is a coffee shop in near Covent Garden Market, downstairs in an open courtyard that has street performers from the Royal Opera House school, buy a coffee or a glass of wine and enjoy. Close by on Drury Lane is an amazing restaurant called Sarastro, its a Victorian Opera house with tables in opera boxes, old " listening booths" and rows of roccoco furniture. You find yourself sitting close to fascinating people, eating marvelous food and on many nights listening to wonderful live music. If you enjoy walking, then walking around the area of Knightsbridge
  • Oops hit post too soon, or Kensington is an adventure. You find so many hidden gems
  • Thanks so much adding every one to my to do!!! I did see something about the Sarastro Restaurant and really would like to go to that.
  • The British Museum has a gorgeous reading room.

If you're into that sort of thing, I really liked the Imperial War Museum.

It was 10 years ago that I was there, but at that time, the Portobello Road Weekly Market was great - part antiques, farmers market, craft market, etc.  We would go and spend the morning, then collect treats and wine from the farmers market and head over to the park for a picnic lunch.  I think it was on Saturdays.
  • I've never been to London, but I recently finished A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab and liked it. It is more of a fantasy-set London, but I thought it was a fun read.
