Couple of questions

1. Did you pay for Fertility Friend VIP. If so, was it worth it?

2. Did you happen to switch health insurance during your pregnancy? How did it work? Did you have any problems in doing so?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Couple of questions

  • Loved having FF VIP. If you check out their FB page you can often get a year for $25. My VIP expired a few months ago and I already miss the extra info it provided, even during pregnancy.

I have not switched insurance during pregnancy but it shouldn't be a major ordeal. If by chance you do change insurance during pregnancy and your doctor is no longer covered under your new plan I believe you can call and talk to someone so that they do cover your new doctor. A few years ago I had an employee who was in that boat and I remember my boss talking about the insurance being required to cover the old doctor due to pregnancy. It's just been awhile but I would be happy to research for you.

  • Thanks Am. I am trying to see right now if I can just go on my husband's plan. I age off of my parent's plan at the end of the month, and I have an offer of insurance, but I know it is going to end when my job ends mid school year. And with TTC, I know it would be so much better to just be on the plan I am going to be on long term. But from what I know of his insurance, I can't be on his, even if it's for a few months. So i'm looking at a month of his, four months on mine, and back on his. Which seems like more work than it's worth for all parties. The fortunate part, is I know his will cover the doctor I want to use. So if worse comes to worse, we can wait until I go back on his insurance, which is not what I want to do. If you would be willing to do some research, I can get you some more info, just let me know what you need. Thanks!

Oh and I saw the special and signed up. It was a good deal!

  • I paid for FF and I loved it. I also got a Facebook special.

If you get on your DH's insurance, your school district should reimburse you for the months you were offered it, but declined it. That's what happened with my long term sub position. I ended up with a check for almost 1500, which paid for us to go to Park City that year. Lol.

  • That's what I've been doing, but I don't get any money back because of something stupid they put in the contract. I have J asking HR today, so hopefully he'll come back with that the company policy has changed since the last time I checked....

  • I have the normal FF right now. I'm not planning on getting the VIP unless it takes us a long time once we start trying.

As far as insurance goes you have several options. I believe your coverage ending through your parent's insurance is a "life changing event" and you could buy insurance through the marketplace during a special enrollment period of 60 days. Otherwise the marketplace doesn't open until November and coverage won't begin until January. That is what I will be doing. Is insurance affordable through your H's employer for you? I know DH's new school has good insurance for him, but to add me on it would be $800/month. I can get coverage through the marketplace for about $300. You might also be able to apply for Pregnancy Medicaid once you are pregnant. They count the unborn child as part of you family.

  • It's a very afforadable plan, and a very good plan. Much more affordable than going on my insurance. Plus, the hassle of switching wouldn't be worth it.

I would have insurance either way. But the good news, I can take J's insurance and not take mine, so I'm good!

  • And I was wrong. I have to take mine. I just did the math, and I would spend about $516 dollars extra to go on J's plan as secondary. I have to do the math and see if it's worth it, when I find out what my plan actually covers. His plan covers all doctor's visits for pregnancy besides 1 $20 copay.

  • $516 a month? That seems very high.

That is actually low compared to what it would cost me to go on H's plan. It would cost us $800 a month extra to add me and even more if we added Abby too.

  • I agree with Megan. It was over $800 a month for me to be added to David's.
  • what is the deductible and co insurance after?
  • Wow! That's 516 for the whole time I would be on as secondary... It would add 650 in deductible and 20% co insurance for most of the time. But it should pay my co insurance, deductibles and copays for whatever my insurance is.

What do you mean $516 for the whole time?? Like per month? Insurance confuses me so much. I'll be going through this in November.

  • Sorry guys, I thought I had replied. Apparently I didn't. It would be $21 a week, which would add up to 516 for the time that I would have my own insurance. We've decided I'm going with his as secondary, especially considering that you've all said that's so cheap.

Thanks! And I am loving FF VIP!
