New to Kindle - helpful tips?

So, I jumped on the Prime Day sale and got a Kindle. I've been using an original Kobo since Borders closed - mainly just for library books.

What do I need to know about Kindles? Any helpful hints? Good places to find free books or book deals?

Re: New to Kindle - helpful tips?

  • I think I've downloaded a few when Riffle sends me an email, but I don't know that I've actually read any of them.   Downloading Kindle books from the library is ridiculously simple and what I use it for the most., I try to get books I want when they're on the daily deal, or if a book I plan to buy is much cheaper on Kindle than for the HB or PB, which isn't really the case much anymore.

I leave my WIFI off unless I'm trying to download something and the battery lasts weeks that way.  I'm not sure that there really are any good tricks!

  • Yup, the best tip is to turn wifi off unless you are actively using it. Other than that, It's pretty straight forward.

  • I get an email daily from Bookbub that usually gives deals and you can set preferences. Other than that I just check out Goodreads and they usually have a buy from and give the Amazon price.

I have gotten free ones from Amazon, but those are really just my in between books because they are not usually books I want to read, but just ones that look decent by the description.

  • I just started a thread about free books the other day - something about borrowing availability or something.  There were some helpful tips in that thread.  I've only had my Kindle for a few weeks.
  • @Kate&Mark - If you have Prime and order other stuff on Amazon, you can have the option of "no-rush shipping'  If you don't need your stuff in 2 days, you can choose this option and get a $1 credit towards ebooks.  I used this sometimes if I'm not in a rush for stuff.

FREE No-Rush Shipping — get it Friday, July 24
