The Others series by Anne Bishop (sp through book 3)

You guys, I think I'm giving up on this one.  I just didn't like it and it was almost torture to get through.  I understand that Meg and the other CS's are coming from places where they aren't like other women, but the naivety really, really detracts from the book.  It think it's interesting that both Simon and Meg are learning to be human together, but the slowness of it is KILLING me.  I don't need them to get it on already, but some progression in their friendship would be nice instead of just snarling at eat other.  Also, I don't like the hand holding of Meg either.  Fine, protect her from the people who want to hurt her, but treating her like a child is not going to help her grow!

What are other people seeing that I'm missing?  This series gets such high reviews, even from my librarian!

Re: The Others series by Anne Bishop (sp through book 3)

  • I really liked the first book, the second one I enjoyed, the third one I was disappointed by. It seemed like they made Meg a lot less unsure and incapable just for her to have a story arc of improving, but by the end of the book she wasn't that much different from who she was in book 1. And the whole Meg/Simon storyline is too drawn out. I'll probably read the next book anyways, because I do like the premise of the series and I have a hard time letting books go once I start a series in general. Much to my own detriment usually haha

It will be hard to give it up, because I feel the same way.  This book just made Meg look completely like a child.   I have more hope that Hope (har har) will be a stronger character, but I'm just not sure if I will care to read about it.
