How many books do you read/listen to at a time?

Books, ebooks, audiobooks, whatever - how many do you have going at once, and in what context (home, car, work, gym, purse, bed?

Re: How many books do you read/listen to at a time?

  • I used to have a bunch at any given time, but in recent years, I got myself down to one audiobook in the car and one book to read.

Last week, though, I was in the midst of a kindle book when GSAW came out and I bought the hardcover.  I put down the kindle and read only GSAW.  But it occurred to me yesterday that I could've been still reading the Kindle book when it was more convenient than a hardcover, like while I was sitting with Eli after he falls asleep at night.

Also, I have two audiobooks out of the library right now, and I'm realizing that I won't finish this first 20 CD one before the other is due back, so I was trying to think of when I could listen to the other one.
  • I usually have a work book, an audiobook, and 2-3 books of various genres going at home (usually a classic that I read suuuuuper slowly, fiction, and non-fiction or short stories).

I usually only have one book going at a time.  I like to read and focus on one until I'm done.  Every once in a while I will have a second one going on my kindle but it's rare.

  • It used to only be one, but lately I have been doing a kindle book on my phone for work, lunch, swim lessons and then a regular book for at home in bed or when we are outside.

I usually have one on my Kindle and one audiobook going at a time. Sometimes I'll start something new in the middle of what I'm reading if I need a change of genre or pace.

One "physical" and one audio.  There's a couple that I've put aside, but mainly two.

ETA; The audio is on my phone so I listen and work when I'm able and the car.  And the other (book/kindle) is on my nightstand, but travels around the house or in my purse.

  • I do 1 at a time. Right now I'm trying 2, both e-books. I think I like 1 at time so that I can focus on the whole book.
  • I usually have one ebook and one 'physical' book going at a time.

  • I normally have at least 3, one audio, one physical and one e-book. Sometimes of course depending on when library books comes in that number goes up but I like the various platforms. I use audio when I run/drive, physical if I'm reading during the day, and kindle before I go to sleep or if I'm laying down reading.
  • Usually 1 audiobook and 1 book I'm reading, but there have been occasions where things have gotten out of control and I have many books going at once.

One book at a time for me.  Every now and then I will need a break from a book and read another before finishing up the first but that rarely once happens.  My brain isn't wired that way.  I can't get immersed in two or more things at once.

Usually it ends up that I read one of the 2 more and finish it before the other just because I get to a good point in one of the books and just want to see how it goes.

  • Usually one audiobook in the car and one other book. Usually it's an ebook, but that depends on what is happening with my library holds.

Add me to the list with one audiobook and one Kindle/physical book.

I used to go up to three before I got the Kindle, since I'd want a physical book to read outside or during take-off/landing on planes. Now that I can use electronics through an entire flight, I don't need a physical book with me.

I have a bunch of stuff in "currently reading" on Goodreads that I set aside and plan to pick up and finish at some point, but I'm only ever actively reading two.

  • I typically am moving between 3-4 books at the same time, both between my kindle and hardcopy. I have one that I typically leave at work M-F for my lunches, and then one that travels with me all over at home, one on my nightstand, and usually one ebook.
