Stanley Steemer Question

Has anyone used this company?

When we move into our new house, I've been think about hiring them to clean our carpets. The only areas that have carpet are the master bedroom, 1 stairway and the finished basement area. The owners have 2 kids and 2 dogs and they've lived there for 20 years. The rugs look to be in great shape and they've reno'd the whole house over the last 10 years but I don't know if they've ever been cleaned. We have a dog so that's a big reason I want to clean them professionally to get rid of the dog scent. We will eventually take our the master carpet when we get all new furniture.

Using the quote tool online, I was getting a quote of $160 to just clean the areas I stated above minus the stairway. To add on deodorizing (for pets etc) that raised the price to $240. Too add on the stairway is was $296. The stairway runs from the garage to the downstairs basement which is the alternate route to using the spiral staircase that goes down from the living room...the dog won't be using the spiral staircase, so he'll be carried down or run down the rugged stairwell if we so happen to go down that way.

I've never used a carpet cleaning company before but I was thinking it was a better way to start off in there to get rid of germs/pet odors and we could eventually buy a cheap rug vacuum later on..

OR

the other option is that my sister has a carpet vacuum of her own but the thing is big and heavy and you have to change the water every few minutes because it gets dirty quick....and of course we could buy a pet shampoo to use...

What would you do?

Re: Stanley Steemer Question

  • My sister just closed on her new home on Friday and the previous owners had a cat. My niece is allergic, so my sister paid for stanley steamer to help with the allergens. She was selling and buying, so she already had so much on her plate, that it was a great choice for her to have that one thing done professionally. And it worked out well since she didn't move her things in until the following day, so it required no furniture moving.

Personally, I think it's a fair price for the amount of work and the quality of the work as well.

Now if you are really going to take out the master BR carpet soon, I might not worry about that area for professional cleaning.
  • We bought the carpet cleaner.  Figured we now have it to use as many times as we wanted.

  • I think Stanley runs sales frequently. You can also rent them from most hardware stores.

  • The professional equipment tends to be stronger then the regular residential equipment. Meaning they have a stronger suction power so it will suck the water and dirt out better then a residential carpet cleaning machine. If you can afford it, have it professionally done this time, You'll have a good feeling then going into the house knowing it's all clean. The time you save paying someone else to do it, you can use to pack/unpack or something else.
