Wayward Pines books/TV show - no spoilers

I'm 75% of the way through the first Wayward Pines book and I just watched the first episode of the TV show last night. Just curious how far I can go in the show without spoilers. I don't think I'll have time to finish the whole series, if even the first book this week. Should you read the whole series before finishing the show, or is it just covering 1 book?

Thanks for your help!

Re: Wayward Pines books/TV show - no spoilers

  • It covers the entire book series, so you will hit spoilers pretty quickly in the TV show. That being said, the TV show veers off and differs from the books quite dramatically in the end.

  • I'm glad you asked because I was wondering the same thing. I'd read about half of the first book when I watched the first episode and even that got a wee bit spoilery. I think I'll probably wait until I've finished reading the whole series before I watch the rest of the TV show.

  • I have been wondering the same thing!  I just finished the second book, and have been holding off on the TV show.

Is the show only this one season that covers all the books, then?
  • I couldn't believe the first episode, I left like it jumped over a huge chunk and I was at least 200 pages into book 1. Not sure I pictured Ethan so much like Matt Dillon, but they didn't describe him all that much either.

I'm reading slower now because I hit what I think is a boring stretch, for some reason I feel they've just gone on too much with one plot about Ethan. I won't say what it is since I said no spoilers, but I'm hoping we're finally going to move on to something else.
  • The show is only one season, and then ends. It "covers" all the books, but definitely goes off in a totally different direction. So it's sort of the worst of all things - it spoils the book, but doesn't follow the book.

Is the show good, though?  Like, even having read the books, is it worth watching?  Once I finish the books, I'm going to give it a shot, but I'm curious about your take on it.

Well, I didn't regret watching it. LOL. Ringing endorsement, huh? But the return on the time investment is good. There are only a few episodes and I did want to see what happened. I was irritated at the way it ended, and the story and character development often felt rushed and confusing. It held my interest, though. I'd give it 3 stars.
