Monday Accountability Post

Happy Monday folks!

1.  How MM was your weekend?

2.  Any progress towards your goals?

3.  Any favorite podcasts, MM related or otherwise?

Re: Monday Accountability Post

  • 1.  Pretty good!  $45 on mulch and yard supplies, $50 on groceries, $8 on a six pack of beer.

    2.  Nothing major; I'll make standard savings and Roth contributions on payday this week.

    3.  I'm really enjoying comedy podcasts lately-Comedy Bang Bang, Who Charted, and Spontanianation are some of my current favorites.  I also like some NPR podcasts, especially Pop Culture Happy Hour and Planet Money.
  • 1. Meh. Too much eating out as usual, exacerbated by the dusty house. I'm honestly not sure where we're at as we're holding back cash and haven't made a credit card payment this week. :(

    2. Good! I received a small inheritance from my grandmother and we got a check from insurance overpayment last week. I put it all - $4,675 - toward H's student loan.

    3. Rick Steves is about all I listen to. Ocassionally Dave Ramsey, but he usually just ends up making me angry.

I didn't know Rick Steves had a podcast! Downloading the Netherlands series now :-)

I have the same issue with Dave Ramsey, mostly interesting but sometimes makes me angry. I kind of cut him off since I figure the political stuff will get more intense as we enter this election cycle.

Rick Steves is good, but they don't add to or update them very frequently. I've pretty much listened to them all twice.

And yes, Dave Ramsey's politics grate on my nerves! Maybe it's just me, but I also find him to be incredibly sexist.

    1.  How MM was your weekend? Pretty good- IKEA ($280), Groceries ($99). DD#1 has $55 to add to her bank account from the family dinner on Friday night. She's $10 away from $2,000 in her bank account (does not include her 529 plan)- more than some adults! I'm hoping by the time she hits her teen years, she'll have $5,000 or so in there for things that she wants (AKA Mom and Dad aren't paying her cell phone bill).

    2.  Any progress towards your goals? No change- getting through the summer and all set to save $1,000 for September. Also, the sewer repair bill is down to $2,800.. the end is in sight (and our grass is starting to grow where the yard was all ripped up)!

    3.  Any favorite podcasts, MM related or otherwise? DH and I are huge This American Life fans- we listened to 4 episodes on our way to and back from IKEA this weekend.

  • 1) Ours was kind of spendy, but that was to be expected.  We spent about $200 on groceries.  We haven't been to the grocery store since before our trip, and we haven't had a stock-up run since we started the kitchen remodel.  Also $30 on gas, $30 on lawn stuff/weed killer/bug spray, and about $20 eating out for lunch (shame).

    2) We tallied it up, and we kept our trip to France (barely) in budget!  We also got all our credit card bills in for August, and we should be able to put aside our dollar goal for this month.

    3) I've never actually listened to a podcast.... I'm more of a books on tape person.  We rent them from the library or Cracker Barrel.  I like David Baldacci and other authors like that for road trips.

    - I've never listened to a podcast. I've never really thought about listening to anything other than the radio on my morning commute.

Spendy, but expected as we were away at a wedding. $150 for 2 nights at the hotel, $40 for breakfast on saturday, $50 for gas, $4 when I needed a coffee and a donut on the way home, $100 on groceries

    2.  Any progress towards your goals?
WE've decided to sell H's car, so I'm looking up KBB prices and deciding how much to discount for a crack in the plastic bumper (otherwise the body has only minor scratches and no rust). we're selling it with brand new all-season tires and a set of snow tires that probably have a few more seasons on them. I'm hoping we'll get somewhere around $5000 for it. My parents are gifting us their mini van, so we'll plan to use the cash to jumpstart our Roth IRA contribution for the year and probably to do a little furnishing of the room in the basement. neither H or are are excited about driving a mini van, but it's definitly more practical than the mazda for traveling with 2 dogs and a baby.

    3.  Any favorite podcasts, MM related or otherwise?
nope, I've never gotten into podcasts. I always have NPR on in my car.

Good. Just about $85 on groceries an no other expenses.

    2.  Any progress towards your goals?
$1254 to student loans which brings us UNDER 30K!!! 11 months to go. Also put another $100 in the car replacement fund which is up to $800 now.

    3.  Any favorite podcasts, MM related or otherwise?
We LOVED Serial and totally recommend it. I love This American Life also and then I just listen to some churches' messages via podcast. On the Dave Ramsey front, I usually listen to it straight from his website in the background while at work and it's really easy to skip over the political rants. I really wish he would stick to personal finance questions and not attempt to apply his ideas to macro economics. But if I skip to just the calls, he actually is quite compassionate towards people while also trying to get them to acknowledge that it's up to them to make a change in their financial lives. But yeah, I almost gave up on him umpteen times when I first started listening lol.
  • 1.  How MM was your weekend?
We did a weekend trip to visit friends in Santa Cruz. We spent $72 in food which was a bit crazy, but it's very expensive there, and $37 for gas for the drive. Then I spent $58 for groceries for the week, which included baby formula which is $25 and cat food, so not too bad!

    2.  Any progress towards your goals?
Yup. Finally got our truck fully paid off last week, just waiting for the title now so we can sell it and get our savings nice and plump again. I also have another appointment with our financial adviser this week and she will get us on a new track with retirement and house savings.

    3.  Any favorite podcasts, MM related or otherwise?
    I don't listen to any

    2.  Any progress towards your goals?  We got our new Fairmont card to use to earn a couple free nights for our vacation next summer!

  • 1.  How MM was your weekend? A bit spendy, but much of it was budgeted. $20 on beer at a local beer garden, and $19 for pizza after. $113 on 3 pairs of shoes for H and I (7% + 30% off at Kohl's), $4 on a clearance shirt at a different Kohl's lol, $33 on a Columbia rain jacket/shell for H. The shoes and jacket are needed for our Europe trip, so we anticipated these costs. Then $8 toward tip at dinner with my parents Saturday and $10 on hot ham and rolls for brunch on Sunday. And $190 for train tickets for the trip. Phew, I think that's it.

    2.  Any progress towards your goals? Yes, as in I feel more ready for our trip now that we have walking shoes, H's rain jacket and train tickets. Not MM friendly, though.

    3.  Any favorite podcasts, MM related or otherwise? None, I prefer listening to music rather than talk.

  • 1.  How MM was your weekend? Great.  This weekend we actually only spent $20 on lunch on our way home from vacation.  My parents also gifted us the expenses from vacation, so it only cost us $300 instead of $2,000.

    2.  Any progress towards your goals? Meet with a financial planner tonight to discuss his thoughts on investing.  Then meeting with Dave Ramseys' ELP on Thursday to get a 2nd opinion.

    3.  Any favorite podcasts, MM related or otherwise? Dave Ramsey

  • 1 - Really great.  Went out for ice cream on Friday night ($12), Went out for dinner Saturday night ($35) and a drive in movie ($10).  DH went to lowes on sunday because he was doing some man projects around the house.  I don't remember what he spent but it was minimal.

2 - Didn't meet any goals this week.

3 - I don't know what podcasts are either - lol - I like to listen to music if I'm not watching anything on tv.
