Re: NFL player on $60K budget

  • Wow, I'm impressed! He probably doesn't want to end up like 50 cent!

  • He's very smart! Even if he only gets his guaranteed minimum, by saving most of it, he's setting his family up great.

    Loved this article.

Very cool guy, I'm glad the NFL is finally figuring out ways of reaching rookie players to talk financial planning. Average length of career for an NFL player is less than six years I think, so it's crucial that they plan wisely, especially if they entered the draft before finishing their degree.
  • That's awesome! What a great role model.

Totally agree!  There was a guy from my rival high school who was drafted right out of HS into the NFL.  Never went to college.  Too young with too much money and he got into drugs.  Two years later...after getting caught too many times and multiple rehabs that didn't work...he was kicked off the team and no one else would touch him.

I always thought it was such a shame he hadn't gone to college first.  That might have at least given him some maturity to handle pro sports and the money that comes with it or at least he'd have a college degree to fall back on.

  • That is awesome!  Their fame is so short lived, and they're so young.  Many others should follow in his path.

  • This is awesome. I actually dated an ex-NFL player, and after a back injury made him unable to play anymore, he become a financial planner for rookies. It's really inspiring to meet people like that.
