Book vs. Movie

So, the earlier post got me thinking...

Was there ever a movie (based on a book that you read) that you liked MORE than the book???

I have one: The Help. This is the only instance I can say that I really enjoyed the movie more.
I write sexy books. I read all the books. I love dresses & macarons.

  • Since it was all FAIL, I liked Breaking Dawn Pt 2 better than the 2nd half of the book. I thought they did well with the little twist, showing the battle, and it was an improvement over mind-reading/talking/walk away in the book.

I think I may have liked The Hobbit movies better than the novel. Peter Jackson just creates such a scrumptious buffet of special effects.

I liked the first Mockingjay movie better than the first half of that novel because there wasn't so much aimless wandering and hiding in closets.

I thought the BBC interpretation of Pride & Prejudice was an excellent representation of the novel, and I may have liked it better just because Colin Firth is yummy.

  • I liked the second Divergent movie better than the book.  Insurgent, right?

It was easier to follow than the book, and there seemed to be fewer pointless characters.  I expect the same will be the case for the last part of the series, too.  Because that last book was awful.
  • Mary Poppins. It is my favorite kid movie and I tried reading the books last year and thought they were horrible. I loved how they made Mary Poppins so kid friendly, in the book she came off as just so mean. I read half of the first one and removed them all from my list.

Ditto this. Also, surprisingly, Stardust by Neil Gaiman. I liked the book, but I liked some of the added touches in the movie better.

I've got to go with Mockingjay too. I just kind of pretend the book series ended with Catching Fire.

  • The Devil Wears Prada for sure because...Meryl. Also I really loved Anne Hathaway as Andy. She really gets no love and I hate it because she's a really great actress.

Also agree with The Notebook. I loved that movie so much that I still watch Rachel McAdams' audition on YouTube on the regular.

I loved Bridget Jones' Diary the movie just a smidge more than I loved the book. Probably because of Colin Firth.

  • From Here to Eternity.  I couldn't even make it through the book but I have watched the movie hundreds of times.

This. I felt like the book was a bit heavy on teen angst, which had to be cut back for the film.

And I have some more new additions since the last time we did this...

The Neverending Story. I love the cheesy film, and I hated the sequels. It turns out that the original film was a small part of the book, and the rest are the stories that became the sequel films! If the book had ended where the film had, the book would win.

The Maze Runner. This film sucked. It was confusing and pointless. The book sucked even more, because it was equally confusing and pointless, and took up a lot more than 2 hours of my life. At least the film had some aesthetic set paintings to look at.

  • Cold Mountain. That book was torture for me, but I enjoyed the movie.
