Final kitchen photos

I've gotten some requests!  We got the kitchen painted last weekend, and I finally remembered to take some pictures.  The table is from Costco - it was $180 and folds into an entryway table if we ever change our minds about it.  The chairs were $75 each from Wayfair.  A bit pricey, but about half the price of what that style costs from Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, etc.

We love it!  Only thing left to do is a curtain for the window and some art on the walls.  We're also going to install glass shelves in the butler's pantry at some point so that the light filters all the way down.  As you can see, right now it kind of stops at the top shelf! We will need 6 shelves, and my contractor quoted $50 each.  My dad actually has some leftover tempered glass in his workshop from a business that was liquidating years ago, so he's going to let us salvage what we can from that stash before paying for anything else we need.

  • Also, the paint color is kind of funny.  It morphs from blue to green to grey to even taupe, depending on the light.

It doesn't really show up in the pictures, but it is definitely a distinct color from the backsplash.  We really like it, and it's pretty neutral so we can add color with decor.  I get bored easily and change things up pretty often, so we've learned it's better to keep everything that's hard to change neutral.

  • Yay! Absolutly beautiful! I love everything about it!

Can I ask you about the Wayfair chairs? I love a lot of htings on this website but have wondered if it's cheap stuff or what? Did they delivery the chairs to your house assembled? How does it work?

I was skeptical about Wayfair at first, but we've now used them for a lot of things.  The first thing we bought from them was a porcelain pedestal sink, and it came intact with free 2-day shipping.  We've bought multiple light fixtures from them (the one in the photo is also a Wayfair purchase), we bought our kitchen faucet from them, and now we've bought furniture.

The chairs came ready to assemble.  The first one took about 20 minutes while we figured out how to do it, and the other 3 were maybe 10 minutes each?  Pretty easy.  The finish on them is quite hard, so they'll be able to withstand some abuse.  I wouldn't buy very expensive furniture for the breakfast nook anyway because we'll be using it all the time.  I expect those chairs to wear out at some point, but it's definitely not IKEA/Walmart/Target cheap.  They are real wood - not fiberboard or anything.

I've had one thing come from them that wasn't as pictured.  Of course, it was for a house project, and I didn't even open the box until after the return window had expired.  When I realized what we had received, I called and asked if there was anything they could do and owned up to the fact that I didn't inspect it on time.  Even though the return window was closed, they still refunded my money, and they even let me keep the light fixture I had ordered!  Because it was not as pictured, the lady on the phone listed it as a "manufacturer defect" and said that it did not need to be returned.  We still have it and might use it somewhere.  She even refunded the $9 or so of Wayfair rewards that I had used to purchase it.

I'm sure not everybody has had such a positive experience with them, but we've always been really happy.  I do limit our orders to items that have lots of positive reviews.  In general, I have found reviewers to be spot on with their comments.
