Re: Summer Book Poll

  • What's the best book you've read this summer?  A Desperate Fortune by Susanna Kearsley

What's the worst book you've read this summer?  Visions in Silver by Anne Bishop or The Young Elites by Marie Lu.  It was extra sad because they both get such high reviews.

Do you gravitate towards a specific genre during the summer?  I've been on a Contemporary Romance kick the last several weeks.

Is summer reading better for long book or short fluffy books? Fluff, for sure.

What's the best book you were ever required to read over the summer? I don't know if I'd say they were the best, but the two I remember reading were The Killer Angels and The Chosen.  It's been so long that I barely recall the stories.  I specifically remember that while reading The Killer Angels that I actually started reading and enjoying instead of being dragged down by the Summer Reading bug.  I HATED forced reading.

What's the best book you've read this summer? I haven't read a lot this summer yet but Love Life by Rob Lowe was good

What's the worst book you've read this summer? Deep Down Dark by Hector Tobar. It's about the miners who got stuck underground and I got bored reading it.

Do you gravitate towards a specific genre during the summer?  Books set during the summer, especially book set on an island like Nantucket

Is summer reading better for long book or short fluffy books? Fluffy

What's the best book you were ever required to read over the summer? Rebecca. It's still one of my favorite books of all time.
Whether or not you find your own way, you're bound to find some way. If you happen to find my way, please return it, as it was lost years ago. I imagine by now it's quite rusty.”

  • What's the best book you've read this summer?
What If? by the creator of xkcd. It's hilarious and quite interesting.

What's the worst book you've read this summer?
Armada by Ernest Cline. It wasn't bad, but I didn't really believe in the characters or their relationships. It felt a bit forced. And I've loved everything else I've read this summer.

Do you gravitate towards a specific genre during the summer?
Not usually, but this summer I seem to be following a non-fiction aviation trend. I travel a lot, and my office overlooks a military runway, so I've accumulated a bunch of titles on Kindle/Audible over the years that I never got around to reading. This spring I got hooked on playing with flightradar24 plane tracking site and app, so I picked up a book by a commercial pilot. Then I went straight into a flight attendant memoir. And in the meantime, I was listening to the audio version of the memoir of a Topgun instructor who'd helped with the film.

Is summer reading better for long book or short fluffy books?
I don't really change my reading habits at all by season. I just read what I'm in the mood for. If I happen to be on a beach vacation (at any time during the year), I actually tend to read longer, heavier books, since I have more time, energy, and focus.

What's the best book you were ever required to read over the summer?
I've actually never had "required" reading over the summer. I feel like that must not be true, but I really can't recall anything. I was always reading during the summer anyway!

  • What's the best book you've read this summer? Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

What's the worst book you've read this summer? Fifty Shades

Do you gravitate towards a specific genre during the summer?  Maybe more YA  because they are easier to carry around outside and also because if I have to put it down and not pick it up again it is easy to keep up with the story.

Is summer reading better for long book or short fluffy books? Short fluffy

What's the best book you were ever required to read over the summer? I don't remember being required to read anything over the summer.

  • What's the best book you've read this summer?  I didn't read anything that I got super excited about this summer. Maybe 'The Distant Hours'.

What's the worst book you've read this summer?  Making the Terrible Twos Terrific...so bad.

Do you gravitate towards a specific genre during the summer?  I usually read fluff in the summer.  I've probably read more Nora Roberts books this summer than I have in the past two years.

Is summer reading better for long book or short fluffy books? fluffy

What's the best book you were ever required to read over the summer? I never had required summer reading.

  • What's the best book you've read this summer? I'm not finished but so far The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
What's the worst book you've read this summer? Dark Horse by Tami Hoag  I just couldn't get into it

Do you gravitate towards a specific genre during the summer?  I have read all types of books this summer.

Is summer reading better for long book or short fluffy books? I have read mostly shorter fluffier books, but that was due to availability at the library.

What's the best book you were ever required to read over the summer?  I dont remember ever being required to read over the summer.
  • What's the best book you've read this summer?  The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater. Can't  believe it took me so long!

What's the worst book you've read this summer? I read a really horrible historical romance that I can't even be bothered to remember the name of. Blech.

Do you gravitate towards a specific genre during the summer? I try to read shorter books during the summer. Try being the operative word.

Is summer reading better for long book or short fluffy books? I think fluffy books go better with summer.

What's the best book you were ever required to read over the summer?  I think my 7th grade summer reading list was why I read Pride & Prejudice but I can't remember.

  • What's the best book you've read this summer? I've had an amazing book summer, but probably enjoyed How to Write a Novel by Melanie Sumner most as a real "summer read"

What's the worst book you've read this summer? Dark Rooms by Lili Anolik

Do you gravitate towards a specific genre during the summer?  I could never choose just one genre, but I do think it's fun to try to work my way through an epic fantasy series during the summer.  Luke and I try to pick one together and discuss as we go - this year we read the Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb

Is summer reading better for long book or short fluffy books? A combination?  I like the long epic fantasies during the summer but I also like to have short, easy books on hand for quick reading

What's the best book you were ever required to read over the summer?  Lord of the Flies

  • What's the best book you've read this summer?  It's a tie between Blackbirds by Chuck Wendig and The Best Man by Kristan Higgins

What's the worst book you've read this summer? Probably The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon. Not a bad book by any means, but I think I like the other's I've read more.

Do you gravitate towards a specific genre during the summer? Not really. I just follow my whims just like any other time of the year.

Is summer reading better for long book or short fluffy books? Generally I can go for meatier books over the summer since a break from teaching frees up extra brain power for more difficult subject matter, but this summer not so much.

What's the best book you were ever required to read over the summer?  I don't remember ever being required to read anything over the summer. I think we had recommended reading lists, but nothing mandated. My childhood summers belonged to Christopher Pike and Ann M. Martin and Michael Crichton and John Grisham and Stephen King.

  • What's the best book you've read this summer? Nothing exceptional this summer, but I really enjoyed "Wild" and the Wayward Pines series is pretty good.

What's the worst book you've read this summer? Eyes On You by Kate White. I read it for the big read challenge but it was a waste, quick but super fluffy.

Do you gravitate towards a specific genre during the summer?  No...but, I do save some YA and fluffy reads for the summer that I know will be quick. If I can get a beach day I like to save them so I can read them fast.

Is summer reading better for long book or short fluffy books? At least this summer fluffy and short

What's the best book you were ever required to read over the summer? Sadly I didn't really do the required reading.
