Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys (NS)
I LOVED THIS BOOK.
I started it on Saturday night and finished it last night. I couldn't put it down. I didn't love Between Shades of Grey, and almost didn't pick this one up because of that, but I'm so glad that I did.
Jo is 17, and the daughter of a prostitute, a label that she feels has haunted her for her entire life. She lives on her own and mostly takes care of herself, trying always to escape the shame of where she came from, and to escape from town and disappear to where no one knows who she is.
It was so well-written, and it all felt so real. I loved all the characters, even the ones I didn't like at all, and I adored the setting. It was all so good. So good. I completely recommend it to everyone.
