Re: Thursday Randoms

  • There's a man with the first name of Jamie with a very Scots last name at work in a different location.  I hope I never have to meet him because it makes me think of Outlander, which makes me think of... well, you know.   I don't want the actual vision of him to ruin my fantasy.

  • Along similar lines, I think I wound up doing all the work for one specific division for work because I really like the division chief's voice, and kept volunteering for projects for him.  He's got one of those gravelly, scratchy kind of voices, and I could listen to the man talk all day long.  It also doesn't hurt that he's easy on the eyes.

I interviewed a woman this week with the most beautiful accent.  I just wanted her to read me stories all day.

  • We went to an outdoor concert last night and I wore my winter jacket. Next week it's going to be 95. This weather is drunk.

You're in accounting, too, right?  I just did this 3 months ago.  It was terrifying, but SO WORTH IT.  I hope it's the same for you.

  • I'm a Debbie downer lately. My dog is most likely dying. :( I wasn't going to post it here but that's what all my fb statuses have been about. We are trYing to treat her for pneumonia as our last hope. But it's most likely lung cancer. :(

    I'll miss my girlie.

  • I'm so sorry @RevJen. I've been following your posts.  It's such an awful thing to lose a beloved pet.

Thank you. Like I said, Debbie downer.

I'm so thrilled that you're starting a new job though! Leaving my coworkers last year was the most difficult thing but I needed to get out of that company with my sanity intact. It was the best thing I ever did.

I wish the same for you. Change is a scary mother effer at times but it's worth it in the end. Nothing but happiness, my friend.

  • I'm so sorry @RevJen.  You're doing everything you can for her, and you have given her a great life.  (hugs)
  • @RevJen, I'm so sorry. Pets are so hard to lose. I hate seeing my cats sick, they can't communicate and tell you what's wrong, you just feel so helpless.

Hoycie congratulations on the new job! Nice to have Labor day to relax and transition

I received a Facebook message from a mutual friend (our husbands are military buddies) who sells those stupid Guther whatever basically Proactive products from home. I'm afraid to open the email because we never speak so I think it's related to a promotion the company is running, hire more people on your pyramid before Sept 1. Apparently if you do sign on to be a sales rep you get the "sample products" free instead of paying your own money for them. I'm just afraid to open the message FB now tells you if someone read the message, how do you respond no leave me alone I"m not helping your scheme. Sorry I know we had this discussion a few Thursday's ago.

Can you just politely reply that you're not interested/don't have the time/motivation to get involved in selling products like that?
  • Maybe a polite, "no. Thank you. I"m not interested."

  • My car died again this week.  It's running again, BUT it's been having issues repeatedly and it's old.  Then Luke got a raise.  Soooooooooo....I'm getting a new car this weekend!  We're going shopping Saturday and have appointments to look at a Jeep Liberty and Mitsubishi Outlander plus whatever else the dealership wants to recommend.  Any suggestions?

  • It's been a sucky week. I feel very undervalued at work right now and my job lately has been more like the "other duties as assigned" is my first responsibility and my actual job is unnecessary. Today I had to take notes at a board meeting. I'm the curator of the museum and I had to be the fucking secretary. I'm not on the board. I've been here 3 years and it's like I'm only the curator when it is convenient to everyone else. I don't want to start looking elsewhere but I think I might have to, and it breaks my heart.

Some of you know that I work in Roanoke, VA. Yesterday was just...awful. There are no sufficient word for how just truly awful yesterday was. I knew the journalist and the cameraman. We weren't friends but she was here at the museum all the time doing special segments and he was usually her camera guy. She was the one person who interviewed me about the new exhibit I opened in February. The shooting happened 20 minutes from my home. I can't get over it, and I cannot imagine how her friends, family, and coworkers are coping. I'm just glad I wasn't watching the news when it happened because I don't think I could ever get those images out of my head if I had seen it live.

I just got a Cherokee and I love it so much.  We looked at a ton on small SUV/Crossovers and that's what we ended up liking best. Good luck finding a new ride!

  • The stuff in VA is chilling. My friend lives an hour away from Roanoke and her son's school was put on lock down to be safe. Those poor families.
  • @sassypants527 I wondered if you knew them (small towns and such). I've been following this on WaPo - the horror is just...incomprehensible. And on air! I just can't believe it.

  • Add me to the job hating group.  I know I will have an opportunity in the spring to switch to a better job so I'm just biding my time.  My co workers are driving me nuts though.
