Weekend Reading

What did you start, finish, make progress on, or neglect this Labor Day weekend?

Do anything exciting?

Re: Weekend Reading

  • DH and I spent the weekend down the cape without our children.  It was AMAZING.  The weather could not have been more perfect, we did everything I had hoped to do and more, including a whole lot of relaxing.  It was perfect.

I read The Girl on the Train, start to finish, this weekend.  It was really good.  My mind kept going to Gone Girl, and I liked this more.
  • Read Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger for book club tonight and started Under the Lights by Shannon Stacey.

  • I finished Magic Shifts.

Nothing really exciting.  Went to a muster, and a cookout.

  • I worked on We Believe the Children and made a decent amount of progress, but mostly devoted myself to coloring and watching the first season of Elementary on commercial free Hulu.  We also went to the most Georgia of all Georgia rodeos and it was amazing.

I started a reread of Shadow & Bone, but then I'll Give You the Sun came in from library (finally!!!), so I started that. I am loving it and slacked on a bunch of work today in order to read it.

My weekend was crabby. As in, we had steamed crabs on Friday, crab cakes on Sunday, and crabs that my FIL caught on Monday.  I bought a new couch on Sunday, which was much-needed and super-exciting to me.

  • I finished Best Friends Forever by Jennifer Weiner which was just…okay.

I also finished Bone Gap by Laura Ruby which I cannot say enough good things about.  It has beautiful images, fascinating characters, and just the right amount of magical realism.  I want to read it again already.

On Sunday we went to a block party and had an epic 60+ people water balloon fight which was cool.

The firefighters in our area get together.  They start with a parade and then cookout and do activities.

  • I finished Felicia Day's book and subsequently binge watched five of the six seasons of The Guild on YouTube. Loved every minute of both.

Saturday was our annual Grandparents Day event at the museum so I had to work that but I took yesterday off (not one of our usual holidays) and had quality kitty time, read, watched youtube, and napped. Lovely.

  • Finished summerland and started The Boy Most Likely To by Huntley Fitzpatrick and got through half of it. Summerland was ok and I'm really enjoying The Boy Most Likely To.

We did a lot this weekend. Dance and library Saturday, bbq Sunday, and cleaning/purging yesterday

  • I obsessively plowed through Lair of Dreams all weekend and finished yesterday morning. I'm already having withdrawals. I need someone else to read this and dish with me.

I also listened to a bit more of Felicia Day's book while I was folding laundry.

We did a birthday dinner for my hubs on Saturday and then birthday dinner for my sister at a new sushi place by my house yesterday. Paul and the boys also raided Target and got some of the new Force Unleashed Lego toys and had fun putting those together. It was a wonderfully relaxing weekend.

  • I made it through half of Whiskey Beach.  Holy hell it's a long book.  It's okay but I won't go out of my way to read another book Nora Roberts book.

The weekend was okay.  DD is recovering from strep throat so she wasn't 100% herself.  We did finally go to the pool on Monday which was fun.

  • I finished Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews.  Thank you to the person that posted this rec on here, I loved it!!  Can't wait for the next book to come out.

We hung out with friends at the lake one day, went to dinner with friends another day, had a small cookout at my moms house on Monday.  Fun low-key weekend.

I liked it.  I think I would have liked it better if I had devoted more than 10-15 minutes at a time with it.  It was good, but not the best of the bunch.

@abs05 Whiskey Beach was in no way one of Nora Robert's best.  Try The Witness or The Search if you ever want to give her another try.

Don't give up on Nora Roberts yet!  She has some 'meh' books but there are a lot that are really good.  I just read 'The Witness' and 'The Liar' and both were really good.
