Garage Door opener died....

$300 later after getting a new one installed, I learned that the newer models of the Genie brand are really cheap. The garage technician sad that at most they last a few years. He said they are the worst he has seen. The previous owners of our home had one of these cheapo Genies on one of the doors. It's only about 5 years old. So, PSA - don't buy Genie brand garage door openers.

He said Liftmaster is the best and lasts the longest.

Thanks! Ours is on the fritz and may need replacing soon.
  • We have a liftmaster & love it!!! We had to get a new opener installed when we bought the house as it was a forecloser & didn't come with any openers. By time we got new openers and fixed the opener itself, we were better off installing a new one. The cool thing about our lift master is that it's side mounted so it pushes the door up instead of pulling it up. I think that it's suppose to help make it last longer and it's really quiet. And they now offer an app (not sure of price) so that you can open and close your door from a smart phone app, great for when you get somewhere and are like "Did I close the garage door?" I'll be honest, we got turned on to it when we were watching a special about the cars Jay Leno has and the tour of his garage. He has liftmaster openers. I figure if they are good enough for Jay Leno and his multi-million dollar garage, they are good enough for my home.
