Amazon $10 Credit, plus a dying Paperwhite.

Amazon sent me a random $10 credit for being a "great Kindle Books customer". Yay! Now I get to decide what to buy. Anyone read "Doll-baby"?

Also, my Paperwhite won't charge. I've tried different cables, and if I wiggle them, it'll start charging, but then the light goes out after a couple minutes, and it won't doesn't ever actually charge. Any one have this problem? It's only about a year old. Past any warranty, of course. I wonder if it's worth contacting Amazon about, or if I should just get a Voyager. (That would be my 4th e-reader purchased. I have a still functioning Keyboard2 that I am letting my mom use, a Kindle fire, and the paperwhite.

Re: Amazon $10 Credit, plus a dying Paperwhite.

  • I'd contact Amazon and see what they offer.  Their customer service is amazing and I wouldn't be surprised if they offer to send a replacement.  I'd be super annoyed about an ereader lasting only a year.

  • Oh, I haven't read Doll-baby but it has been on my TBR list forever!

I'm no help with the Paperwhite, as I have had Nooks in the past. I use an iPad mini now with the kindle and nook apps on it.

Ditto this. If they can't do anything you can always look into a new one. I've never had a problem like that with my Paperwhite.

  • Dollbaby was really good!  Read it!

I would contact Amazon.  The worst they could says is "Sorry, can't help."  I, too, would be pissed if my Kindle died after only a year.

  • Another vote for checking in with Amazon.  And another +1 for being pissed if my kindle dies after only a year.

DH and I were just talking the other day about how we both are so infinitely happy with our Paperwhites and can't see wanting a new ereader for years and years.
  • I got my Paperwhite about a year ago and haven't had any problems. ...aside from almost losing it after leaving it on a flight.

If Amazon can't help you out, before you throw in the towel, see if you can clean the charging connector and port. I've definitely had this problem with an iPhone, so maybe you're having a similar problem?
