phone poll

Do you have a landline?

If not, for how long have you been without?

Re: phone poll

  • We do not have a landline, and it's been 10 years since we did.
  • Yes, but the phone isn't even hooked up to it.

    It's slippery as waterweed.
  • No.  We canceled it about 3 years ago.

  • We technically have a landline. It made our Cable bill cheaper to add the landline. Each year, I call to cancel it, and Comcast offers me discounts if I keep it. We don't have any actual phones connected to it, though.

  • Nope.  We haven't had one in almost 5 years.

Not sure what I will do when DD is old enough to have friends calling her.  Add one back I guess?  I'm sure not turning over my cell phone.

I've wondered this same thing.  I'm afraid that not having a land line is going to equate to my kid having a cell phone before I want her to.  Who knows what technology will look like by the time I get there, though?  We'll cross that bridge when we get come to it.
  • We still have a landline.  My MIL lives with us and she will not/can not use a cell phone so we have to keep it for her.

This. It's a bundle package with our cable. We technically have a phone but the kids play with it as a toy. It's not even hooked up.

  • I haven't had a landline since 2008.

  • Last time I had one was in my college dorm room.

  • Yup.  Service for Verizon SUCKS on our street (however, AT&T is perfect).  My husband and the stepmonsters have Verizon and I have AT&T, so we have to have a landline.

  • Nope. We got rid of ours when we moved to SC, so in 2008. My mom doesn't have a cell phone so it does suck when she is watching DS. I have no way to contact her if there were an emergency. Our homes security system can be activated if need be, which would call the police and/or ambulance, but it would be nice to have a way to call her.

  • We got rid of ours about a year ago. DH was adverse to giving parishioners his cell number (too accessible) but he finally caved and we canned the landline.

  • I was going to put in a landline when we moved to the new apartment last year but I never got around to it.  Cell only now.

  • I'm pretty sure the last time I had one was 2003.
  • Not since 2005.

(Technically, I think the furnished apartment we rented in 2006 had one, but I can't recall that we ever used it.)

  • No, when we moved into together we never got one and it's been over 10 year.  We could connect one but we're never home, we both have cell phones and get reception where we live, so I can't justify the cost.

  • No, we had one for a year but cancelled it because it was not worth the cost. Besides that year it has been over 10 years.
  • No. It has probably been 9-10 years and even before that I think we only had a landline for a few months while we were job hunting.

  • Yes.  In our 1st house, cell coverage was spotty so we needed it.  Once we moved, we considered dropping it but with the package deal we have, it is practically free.  However, when a number is requested, I always give my cell number.
  • Apparently we do although I just found out about it not long ago and I have no idea what the number is.  We signed up for wi-fi late last year and I guess the landline was a part of the package.  We don't have a phone hooked up so people can't call it.

  • We briefly had one when we bought the house in 2011 because the cable and internet packaged together was cheaper and it came with a phone. I don't think we ever learned the number and the only person I ever called on it was myself when I misplaced my cell phone. We did get a ton of telemarketer and creditor calls for the previous owner of that number. Otherwise we've been land line free since 2003.

  • No - we haven't had one for probably three years now.  We did get some hilarious voicemails from people thinking they were calling the right number though.
