Hi

I am new here, and just wanted to say HI before I started posting.  My husband and I are really trying to pay off debt and the hard thing is that I am between jobs right now (just working part time and a local grocery store and substitute teaching in between).  I am trying very hard to find more full time work, but it has been rough.  DH busts his bottom to get us through, though sometimes it is frustrating that it is not enough.  In the last year we have paid off one major credit card, and now we are working on the second one.  Once that is paid off, it will be nearly 200 extra bucks in our pocket per paycheck (that is not the min due per month, we are paying more to try and knock this 5500 down.  I won't get into detail how we got into this mess, but lets just say, sometimes medical issues can really mess with your life.

I am looking forward to getting to know this board better and learning some helpful information.

Re: Hi

  • Welcome! I'm in a similar situation of dealing with some job insecurity while trying to pay down credit cards. Everyone who posts here has great advice, and if you're willing to post your monthly budget, they're great at finding unnecessary things to cut out to help you even more.
  • Glad you're here! We're all in different stages in our financial life and there are lots of different preferences about money priorities, but it's a really great place to come for advice, be inspired by others and share your successes. Welcome!!

  • Welcome!

One of the best things you can do is to get some input and feedback during a time like this, so I commend you that you have come here.

This board is full of a bunch of different people and financial styles, but it's a great place to bounce ideas and have a sounding board.

I'm a Dave Ramsey advocate, and my husband and I successfully paid off all of our debt using his plan.  So I will always recommend reading his book, Total Money Makeover to get a plan with money.  There are a few others on here who do his plan as well.

Also, feel free to chime in on any posts.  There are no rules here.

  • Hi, welcome!  I know how tough it is to look for work when the job market isn't always the greatest, but it is commendable that you and your H are still able to pay extra money toward paying down the CC debt.

There is so much good advice on this board and the people here are friendly and supportive.

  • Welcome! Everyone on the board is great about giving suggestions and @hoffse is right, everyone seems to get along.
