Weekend Reading

What did you start, finish, make progress on, or neglect this weekend?  Did you do anything exciting?

I worked on Is Shame Necessary and finished Searching for Sunday by Rachel Held Evans.  We didn't do a ton this weekend - had some friends over Friday and other friends over Saturday and a family birthday party for Luke on Sunday.  Lots and lots of kitten snuggling.

Re: Weekend Reading

  • I finished The Royal We.  I was going to give it 4 stars, but I was really disappointed in the ending.  I also started Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews.  I think I'll finish it tonight.

We went to a carnival and fireworks on Saturday night and then yesterday went to a kids festival and picked some apples.  It was a good weekend!

  • I neglected An Unlikely Event. I don't know why I can't get into it.

I read half of I Was Here- Gayle Forman. I wish I brought it with me to read more today

I thought I got some of The Diviners read, but I am still only at 7% I like it though

We had a busy weekend, Step-dad's 50th birthday at a local Mexican restaurant, went to watch Straight Outta Compton, and DD had her first friend birthday party yesterday.

I just finished Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas in the A Throne of Glass series.  The first book was just okay for me but the second book was AMAZING.  Loved every second of it.
We went to King's Dominion for the day yesterday, which was already decked out for their Halloween parties.  Lots of creepy creepy decorations.  The Freak Show mannequins looked very real.

  • I neglected 'The Royal We' (I may have to come back to it at a later date).  I finished 'Esther' by Rebecca Kanner and started 'In Your Dreams' by Kristan Higgins and am loving it.

We went to a toddler birthday party Saturday and to the Nature Center yesterday.  Pretty laid back weekend.

  • I finished Horns last night. I didn't much care for it but that's ok.

DH came home from his week long mission trip on Saturday and we went to the Roanoke Greek Festival. Om nom nom.

  • I finished Say What You Will.  I really liked it.

  • I'm still making my way through The Heir of Fire. It's fantastic I just haven't had much reading time. DH and I had a kid free weekend so we did some shopping and caught up errands.

  • Finished my John Adams bio - woot woot!!!!!

Low key weekend since DH was gone all last week.  Watched football all day long yesterday.  It was glorious.

  • I started Infinity + One by Amy Harmon.  I'm about 3/4 of the way through it and it has been pretty slow. I had high hopes for it because I enjoyed her other book, Making Faces.

We are redoing our breezeway and turning it into a mudroom, so that kept my busy most of the weekend. DS & I went to see Pixels Friday night. It was pretty cute.

  • I finished The Veil by Chloe Neill on Friday morning, gave it 3 stars.  I then neglected reading all weekend since we were out most of the time.  I started Sisters In Sanity by Gayle Forman today.
Jessica, Married to Brian 12/27/03, Mom to Alex 6/27/94, Devin 10/29/04, and Emily 1/15/07
  • I barely read anything.

My kids' birthday party was on Saturday, and that kind of occupied the entire weekend.  It was so fun, though!
  • I made a decent dent in "The Perks of Being a Wallflower", it's due back Wed so I have to husstle and finish it tonight and tomorrow.

DH and I went to Salem, MA on Saturday, that was pretty fun to see some of the "witch" stuff, although I always feel bad for any modern day witches who practice Wicca, it must be so offensive. We also went apple picking with H's family and the in-laws that was pretty fun.
  • I gave up on Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari.

I got about 30 more pages read of All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr.  I love the writing and the characters but it's so heavy.

Really? What didn't you like about it? I haven't read it yet, but was planning on listening to the audiobook after I finish my current one.

  • So, I chickened out of Revival by Stephen King last week and started something else. But after my stress and anxiety levels from other life stuff calmed down, I felt like picking it back up and I got to about 40% last night. I don't like it as much as 11/22/63 (my favorite of his) or Under the Dome or The Stand, but it's good, though I have a feeling the scary shizz is about to go down.

We had a fun, busy weekend. I went to a writers group meeting on Saturday morning and had lunch with some friends from the group, and then my husband and I went to the Beatles Love Cirque de Soliel show Saturday night. One of my former students that I spent a lot of time working with after classes last year got us tickets and the show was beautiful. Then Sunday we took the boys to jump on trampolines and had lunch with my MIL at a cute little French pastry place.
