Monday Accountability

1.  How MM was your weekend?

2.  Progress towards goals?

3.  Any tv shows you're excited are back or looking forward to trying out with the start of the fall schedule?

Re: Monday Accountability

  • 1. I was home sick all weekend, so I don't think we spent much. $250 stone for shed base, $20 CVS Meds

    2. We have the money to pay off our shed that comes on Friday. We also have money to pay for the electrician coming in Oct to replace our electrical panel. Unfortunately after getting 1 of 3 quotes back for fencing in the yard, I think we will have to wait until spring as it costs more than we thought...plus we need other small things for the house.

    3. Kendra, Kardashians, Teen Mom- Don't judge, I love trash TV. The Blacklist and not sure what else is coming on....

  • 1.  How MM was your weekend?
$65 on groceries, $26 on date night. We each made $225 on the 12th working a catering event for 3000 people that a friend organizes every year. So we're rolling in blow money!

    2.  Progress towards goals?
$900 more to SLs on Friday brought us officially under the halfway mark of paying off our debt. down to $26,900ish and should still be done July 2016.

    3.  Any tv shows you're excited are back or looking forward to trying out with the start of the fall schedule?
Excited most for Brooklyn Nine Nine. I really liked How to Get Away with Murder last year and I think the acting is great, but I have a hard time suspending disbelief with those shows, so I don't know if I'll watch season 2.
  • 1. Great!  I went to an event and was able to take home the leftover food.  We ate it Fri, Sat and Sun.  We also had free tickets to a play and a football game.  We only spent about $10 total for groceries and popcorn during the play.

    2. Staying the course but feel like we have had a big set back.  H has been UE for over 1.5 years now.  He finally got a job offer from the company he is temping for.  He countered the offer and then they pulled it and gave it to someone else.  The temp job will end at the end of this month.

To combat the job situation depression we cleaned house, which was a goal.  We identified some old clothes to sell and a few bags to donate.

    3. We look forward to the return of Amazing Race and the abc family comedies.  We are going to try a few new shows too and see if any become new favorites.  I'm hoping Muppets is good.

    1.  How MM was your weekend? Not bad- sold some fabric on IG (made $160), groceries ($169), 2 pairs of work pants for DH ($60- good sale on BR Factory), DD#2's dance class at day care ($358 for the school year).

    2.  Progress towards goals? Not much- the sewer repair bill is down to $2,100.. can't wait to have the extra $700/month for savings starting in January. Other than that, everything is on track for $500/paycheck to be saved starting in October.

    3.  Any tv shows you're excited are back or looking forward to trying out with the start of the fall schedule? Gotham starts tonight, Wednesday ABC comedies.. that's about it for us. Might look into watching Limitless too.. we'll see.

Good. I was sick for part of the weekend. $10 for Rxs, $10 to finish a baby gift, $4 for coffee on road trip to see said baby, $30 for birthday gift and goodies to celebrate, $20 lunch Sunday for the 4 of us, $6 for coffe, I don't know how much we tithed for church, H took care of it.

    2. Progress towards goals?
Just trying to put money in savings. Not sure how much will go in this week.

    3. Any tv shows you're excited are back or looking forward to trying out with the start of the fall schedule?
    Bones!
I'm still in a "what the H/F? ?" after watching Under the Dome... H watched it and I was usually in the same room.

  • 1) Pretty good.  $50 for a shower gift, $50 for groceries, and $100 for supplies for our doors.  We are very close to being done with those!  Also about $25 on gas. Our gas budget has just plummeted recently.

    2) Stuck to the budget this month, despite lots of last-minute things that popped up.  Just trying to stay the course until the our budget changes at the beginning of next year.  Mentally I'm already into 2016.

    3) Not really.  I love MasterChef, and I'm sad it's over for the year.  Looking forward to Downton Abbey, but it's the final season which is also sad.

On the bright side, I recently binge-watched Narcos on Netflix, and it was insanely good.  I highly recommend it for any House of Cards fans.  It's about Pablo Escobar and the rise of the cocaine trade in Colombia.  There was a point when the man was worth more than General Motors.  That show was so good, and they've set it up for a second season.  Umm, yes please.

Really good.  Everything was budgeted, came in under budget for groceries, and did a bunch of meal planning for the week.  Also bought snacks for our trip to Nashville this weekend.
    2.  Progress towards goals?
Still on track to cash flow Nashville this weekend, and the purchases for the house.

    3.  Any tv shows you're excited are back or looking forward to trying out with the start of the fall schedule?
None.  Now that we don't have cable and have a baby, we never watch TV any more.  We barely ever watch Netflix even.  It may get better once winter rolls around.
However, Nick Carter is on Dancing With the Stars.  So I may try to catch a few episodes of that once they're available online.

    eh not that good.
Saturday 65 on groceries, 15 on diapers and 45 on dinner out with friends. and Sunday another 35 on groceries. We just are so horrible with that.

    2.  Progress towards goals? not yet

    3.  Any tv shows you're excited are back or looking forward to trying out with the start of the fall schedule? No cable. Although the new season of Longmire just showed up on netflix which we're looking forward to - once we get caught up.

  • 1.  Pretty good.  $50 on plants, $22 on groceries, and $30 on "fun", but all was budgeted.  Also made $50 on a dive class.

    2.  Not really.  Happy to have kept to our budget for the weekend though.

    3.  Dr. Who and Parts Unknown.  Sadly we have to buy them on iTunes since we have no way to stream either for free.

@hoffse we also love MasterChef!  We haven't watched the last episode yet, but probably will tonight or tomorrow.  Really rooting for Claudia!  Derek drove me bonkers.
  • 1.  How MM was your weekend?
Good! Spent $4 on coffee while working on schoolwork at Starbucks, and $8 on a toy for my girls. FI was busy helping a friend move, and the kids and I just hung out at home.
    2.  Progress towards goals?
I paid off my last interest-baring credit card! I just have on card left, but it has 0% interest until March. I divided up the balance, so I know how much to put toward it to pay it off a month early, and any extra is going into savings.
    3.  Any tv shows you're excited are back or looking forward to trying out with the start of the fall schedule?
FI and I don't watch much tv, but we do watch The Walking Dead together. We've been watching Fear the Walking Dead also, but I think the pilot season is only going to be 6 episodes and ends before the new season of TWD starts.
  • 1.  How MM was your weekend? We returned from 2 weeks abroad on Saturday, and since it was a travel day we didn't spend much PLN except for on some food and transportation to the airport (the bus cost $2.14 USD total for both of us). Sunday we spent $50 on the essential groceries (eggs, milk, cereal, a couple meals, etc) to hold us over until we get the next grocery coupon book in the mail and can do a more comprehensive shop.

    2.  Progress towards goals? Our huge goal for many years has been to visit Germany and Poland together - so YES, the goal has been met! :)
Next, we have several financial goals to focus on now that our focus is not on traveling. We need to switch our bank, get life insurance for H, review retirement accounts, look into investing, find a financial adviser.

    3.  Any tv shows you're excited are back or looking forward to trying out with the start of the fall schedule? Our favorites are Castle and NCIS, which both start this week. Woo hoo! There's something nice about having a couple set times each week to sit back and relax.

not terrible. I think H spent about $100 on stuff for the car. $130 on groceries, $75 on a wedding gift.
    2.  Progress towards goals?
I'm just happy we're back to the original plan with the cars.
    3.  Any tv shows you're excited are back or looking forward to trying out with the start of the fall schedule?

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?
    - Not good. I had a budgeting meltdown over the weekend. Budgeting down to the penny has been driving me batty. There have been so many things we've bought/done since we've been back home that just weren't accounted for anywhere. So I have decided that at least through the end of the year, I'm only measuring against our savings goals. At least that gives us some time to establish a new normal. As long as we're hitting each of our savings goals, I'm good until the first of the year. Then I'll re-evaluate.

    2. Progress towards goals?
    - $500 in savings. An extra $50 to H's truck. Hopefully we'll pay it off in the next month. The payment comes out of his allowance and the loan has only his name on it, but we're working together to get rid of the loan.

    3. Any tv shows you're excited are back or looking forward to trying out with the start of the fall schedule?
    - SCANDAL! Also, How to Get Away With Murder. We watch the blind auditions for the Voice, but it rarely holds my interest after that. Oh, and Shark Tank. Wow, that's more than I thought.
  • 1 - good.  $42 on eating out Friday night,  $25 picking up dry cleaning, $33 on hair product for me. Saturday $5 on ice cream.

    2 - $83 in savings and $83 in retirement

3 - We love Modern Family and Big Bang Theory.  I personally can't wait for House of Cards to come back again but I don't think its until Feb or March.

  • 1. Fair. We were good about eating at home and we only split one six pack of beer between the both of us. But we did break down and carve $800 out of our budget for some new clothes. H is speaking at a bid conference in October and needed some new pants and shirts. I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do with my half yet...

    2. Between last week and today, sent $1,150 to the student loan.

    3. We don't have cable and our schedules are pretty erratic, so we mostly watch Amazon Prime and Netflix, so lots of Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, etc. I'm also into PBS Masterpiece and BBC series, like Call the Midwife and Downton Abbey.

Good! Went through budget. Cracking down even harder to pay off card by end of October. Was going to buy clothes on Sunday but didn't see anything, so I saved money technically ;)

    2.  Progress towards goals?
    For sure. Once card is paid, extra money going to buy xmas gifts and saving for spending money on trip AND THEN WE SAVE FOR HOUSE!! I already know most of the gifts I'm getting and they're all pretty reasonably priced except for 2 {but these 2 I tend to over buy every year lol}

    3.  Any tv shows you're excited are back or looking forward to trying out with the start of the fall schedule?
Oh yes. Big Bang Theory and Gotham returning.
Muppets, Quantico, Blindspot and there's a few others that I cannot think of for the life of me!

I'm sorry to hear that!  Did they at least counter back and he still said "no", or did they just immediately move on to someone else?

    1.  How MM was your weekend?
Horrible!  Or awesome...I guess depending on how you look at it, lol.  On Thursday, on my way to work, my car started running really roughly and the engine light came on flashing.  I called a tow truck at lunch and left early.  Turns out my spark plug had gone bad and my ignition coil needed to be replaced.  $240 on car repairs that were certainly not planned.  But then, at least it was fairly minor and only $240.  Plus I had my car back that afternoon.

    2.  Progress towards goals?
This is both progress, but also feeling like I am BLEEDING money.  Have my handyman and his crew, plus my H, out at the new duplex replacing the soffits, fascia, and installing gutters.  $320/day...and it has to be cash...paid at the end of the day.  Every day.  PITA.  I am now on Day 6 of this part.

Got my interior paint this weekend.  $575 AFTER the 40% discount for the sale Sherwin Williams was having.  I tried to focus on the hundreds of dollars in savings.  And that is a bargain considering it is all the paint for two units plus all the trimwork paint.

    3.  Any tv shows you're excited are back or looking forward to trying out with the start of the fall schedule?
So many!  More than usual.  How to Get Away with Murder, I am always riveted by that show.  I like Castle, too.  I'm worried every season that it won't come back.
NCIS...though I'm starting to feel like this show has run its course.  I don't care for the newish woman who replaced Ziva (sp?).  I don't know why.  And it seems like they are gallivanting all over the world nowadays.  Did they turn from NCIS to the CIA and I missed it?  Then again, these are the same producers who put the NCIS west coast spin-off in L.A. (no Navy base) instead of San Diego (HUGE Navy base).
NCIS New Orleans...so fun to have a tv show based in my city!  I've even caught them filming a couple times.  Though, again, I have to suspend my sense of reality that a government agency would have those sexy office digs in the French Quarter.  IRL, that place would be $10,000+/month in rent...to support three agents.  But I guess that is what viewers want to see.
Both my H and I like Modern Family and the Big Bang Theory.  It is two of our "watch together" shows.
  • @short+sassy, we watch Castle and NCIS, too! But I do agree that both shows are close to having run their course. Honestly, we mostly watch Castle because we always have, but not because it truly keeps us engaged anymore. Not to totally go off topic of the thread, but what did you think of last night's season opener?
    Daisypath Anniversary tickers
  • @short+sassy No they didn't counter just pulled the offer!  I've never heard of such a thing.  We figured the worst that could happen would be if they said no changes could be made to the offer, take it or leave it.

I missed it :(.  Our DVR has been running amuck and was being extra bad last night.  I didn't realize that both Castle and the Big Bang Theory openers were on yesterday.  Or I would have watched them "live".  Meh!  Not making that mistake again tonight.

@csuave, that IS terrible!  So crazy!  I also can't believe they at least didn't go back to him and say, "Sorry, Mr. CSuave, we looked into it but can't go higher than X.  Can you accept that?"  Especially considering he has been working there for 1.5 years.
