Weekend Reading

What did you start, finish, neglect, or make progress on this weekend?  Did you do anything exciting?

Re: Weekend Reading

  • Finished up Queen of Shadows. I want book 5 like right now.

Also read Anastasia Krupnik. Was a childhood favorite so I downloaded it when it was a kindle deal of the day.

DH worked all weekend so DD and I were on our own. It's birthday party season so that kept us busy! Turning 5 is a big deal to little people!

  • I finished Belzhar (meh), Alice by Christina Henry (thumbs up) and Chopsticks (meh).  I started The Secret Chord by Geraldine Brooks (so far I'm liking it) and worked on an anthology I'm reviewing called Monstrous (it's decent for horror short stories).

  • I finished N0S4A2 (two thumbs up), For the Love by Jen Hatmaker (one thumb up) and started The Library at Mount Char (Too early to tell, but so far so good)

  • I finished Make You Blush and Make You Mine by Macy Beckett.

  • I made some progress on The Bronze Horseman, but damn that book is long.  So good, but long.

DH and I went to a family wedding about 3 hours away yesterday, and we drove there and back all in the same day.  So we left home at 8:45 am, and we got home at 7:30 pm.  The wedding was beautiful and fun, but it was a long day.  Lucky for me, he drove both ways, so I was able to read some.  Saturday was Eli's birthday, so we had epic birthday fun.  We went apple picking in the morning, then to B&N for Tatum's free birthday cupcake in the cafe (and it was batman day, so that was awesome!), then after naps we went to Build-a-Bear and then Dave and Busters for dinner.  Then we dropped them both off to sleep over at the IL's house.
  • Finished I Was Here. I really liked it.

Read some more of The Diviners, but I ended up watching way to much tv.

  • I almost finished "Walk The Earth a Stranger". I feel like I am reading the book form of the computer game Oregon Trail. LOL

  • Started The Scam by Janet Evonovich but neglected it most of the weekend.

In a good way or a bad way? I loved the heck out of both Oregon Trail and Rae Carson's last series, so I'm thinking this might be good for me.

  • I finished the second half of Revival by Stephen King. It was good, but the ending was a bit disappointing and definitely not one of my very favorites of his. I also finished a manga version of one of the Sandman comic book stories. I'd never read manga before, but this one was pretty cool. I'd read more.

Soooooooo. The reminding me of Oregon Trail part is good. The writing is good. The plot is...well, pretty non-existent, TBH. The book reads fast, and it isn't boring, but I'm just not sure where it is going (well, geographically I know, hahah). The "magic" in the book is very under developed, and feels very unnecessary at this point.  I'm a good 90% in, and I don't feel like there is an overall point, aside from travelling west.  Things happen, things get solved, things happen, things get solved. Rivers to cross! Rain! Buffalo stampede! Indians! Cholera!

That being said, I don't hate it. I will likely read book two.

  • I'm reading Heir of Fire, maybe 80% in, and it's so good.  I had to force myself to put it down and go to sleep on Saturday night.

  • I finished Queen of Shadows and I started Confess by Colleen Hoover.

It was a pretty low key weekend.
