Random: The deputy director is convinced our building is haunted. I put in a security camera while we're remodeling our collections storage space and he keeps seeing orbs flash across the screen. He watches the live feed from home like it's a fish tank. It's immensely hysterical to me because he's usually the biggest skeptic on things. I may have to mess with him. I do know that a man died during the construction of the building around 1917.

@RevJen if you want to come poke around you're welcome to stay in my guest room. :)

  • LOL ... chances are it's dust. You're welcome to send me the footage if it's recorded. Maybe I can convince Lance to make the trip.

They totally zoom around the space and I cannot for the life of me convince him that it's just dust. I have some footage I could send you...

  • Sure. Go ahead. Tell him that you're sending the footage to a paranormal investigator. Maybe he'll believe me instead.

  • I know it's Friday now, but I have another random.

Personalized advertising weirds me out.  I was shopping on line this morning for Misery on Broadway tickets, and now all the ads on here are suddenly for that show.  I've never seen an ad for that show on TN before ever.  But now they're the only ads I see.

It makes me really paranoid.  J is in marketing and when I talk about it he gives me 800 reasons why it's smart blah blah blah, but it really just freaks me out.

This is one of the many reasons I love the AdBlock Plus extension.

Same here. Tervis & Pottery Barn seem to be stalking me at the moment.

Yes! I wonder what the purpose of that is.  I can't imagine that the rate of people going back is really high.

Yeah, you would think that you would instead get ads for similar sites, not the same exact one.  Unless it's just like, BUY MOAR SHOES!

I think ITT Tech will haunt me forever.  It's been over two years since I quit working there, but the five years of web browsing from their servers seems to have stuck.

  • It's really scary, a lot of schools and companies have software to track every page you visit. They claim it's to better funnel their leads, send more, specific information to leads who visit x times than someone who's visited once, but it creeps me out. My husband deletes his browsing history everytime he gets off the computer/tablet. I don't think it helps too much but he's so creeped out he'll try it.

Julie - I always joke a nasty trick to play on someone you don't like is to register their contact info at a for profit school, they'll be called and emailed for years.

Oh yes.  It's as bad as Scientology.  You will be called at least weekly for the rest of your life, regardless of how many times you ask to be placed on a do not call list.

  • @dutchgirl76 @julie37619 Someone must have put my number into one of those - Get out of your student loan website- 8 months later I repeatedly get calls from all over the US numerous times a day.

I use the Truecaller app for my smartphone, and it's fantastic. You can elect to block any number, and the app won't even let your phone ring, nor does it send the call to voicemail - it just kills the call dead. Love it!

  • I'll have to check that out!

Speaking of too salesy and creepy, Verizon comes by our door every so often. They came by at 7pm on Monday night, 2 young sales reps. My poor husband entertained them for 20 mins, they actually asked to see the current company cable bill, check the speed of the internet etc. (although thankfully he didn't share that info) Husband finally got them to go away by saying he'd talk to me (who was sitting in the living room annoyed) and get back to them. Apparently they came back the next day thinking they were going to get us to switch. I don't know what's worse, the pressure or the 7pm during "dinner" hours visit. They were creepy too, they started off "we see you have a verizon cell phone plan". After all that we'd only save about $10 a month and we're not sure if we'd get the same channels.
  • It's how companies are getting around the do not call list.

  • Definitely random, but I went to the grocery store the other night (a nearly empty Market Basket - FTW!) and I was blown away by how many yogurt options there are.  This MB is a big store and it spanned about half of the dairy cooler aisle.  I went for the YoKids I was shopping for, but I was so overwhelmed.  I just don't need that many choices.

I only eat Fage yogurt (rasberry and cherry are my favorite.)  I can't stand any other brand.  I feel like I've tried them all.  I'm not a huge yogurt fan though.  My kids like GoGurts and those yogurt smoothie drink.  The thought of those make me want to vomit.  Yuck!

"People talk about escapism as if it's a bad thing... Once you've escaped, once you come back, the world is not the same as when you left it. You come back to it with skills, weapons, knowledge you didn't have before. Then you are better equipped to deal with your current reality."
