NBR: Intern gifts?

So, it's been a loooong time since I've had an intern that really did a lot of quality work for me, but that was the case this summer.  This intern was almost invaluable to me, she did SO MUCH for me this summer, and did a fantastic job on every single thing.  And that intern managed to stay on here until now.  Her last day is next Friday.

My office always does a lunch for our interns last day (in the office, usually just pizza and salad), and sometimes chips in to get an amazon gift card or something from all of us.  But I feel like I want to get this intern something from me.  I'm writing her a letter of recommendation now and told her I'll write others if she needs them and she can list me as a reference, which is probably more valuable to her than anything else I could get her, but still.

Would it be weird to get her like, a bracelet or something like that?  Should I get her something more career-oriented, like a nice leather notebook thing or something like that instead?

I think it's possible to do something that's kind of a mix. At the end of my last internship, my manager gave me a decorative photo frame. I could have used it at home, but when I became a full-time employee, I kept it on my desk with a personal photo in it, and it reminded me not only of the people in the photo but also of the manager who gave it to me.

Or if you know something about her interests/hobbies, that can also make a nice personal gift.

ETA - I think jewelry would seem a little odd unless you really know her style. Like if she wears different bright colorful statement bracelets to work all the time, and you got her something similar. But then it kind of falls back into that work-personal mix, since it would clearly be something she'd use at work.

  • I always get my intern a small set of business cards printed up that they can use in their job search.
I write sexy books. I read all the books. I love dresses & macarons.
