Update: Spin off on CC's - Any business CC recommendations?

The CC thread got me thinking, now that I opened an LLC a few months ago, I should really get a CC for my business.  Because its new, I've just been using a personal card to pay for some of that business' expenses; however, it's really not kosher from an accounting or legal standpoint.

For those of you who have a business CC or are just in the know, are there any you would recommend or (not) recommend?  For my business, I don't expect to use it much if at all for travel.  I also won't buy office supplies with it.  I'll mostly use it for construction supplies and services, insurance, and occasionally restaurants and gas.

I'm also not going to be a high dollar user...and that is some of the trouble I have run into.  Most bonuses I've seen for signing up require thousands of dollars to be charged within the first 60 days, which is doubtful I'll be charging that much at this point.  I guess I don't have to have a bonus, but of course I want one!

  • Ink cash.  It's free, and it's a cash-back card.  I don't know of any that gives you great rewards for construction supplies or insurance.  That one would give you 1% back on those items and 2% back on restaurants and gas I believe.

The sign-up bonus does have a kind of high minimum spend though - $3K in 90 days.

  • Would you benefit more from a card at a place like Home Depot or Lowe's?  I'm not sure what kinds of cards they offer, but that's where I'd look since home improvement items seem to be what you buy the most of.
  • DH uses a chase card for his business.  He likes it because it adds points for every purchase and you can cash it in once a year.

  • @hoffse, thanks!  I could get away with $3K in 90 days.  The ones I were seeing was like Amex with $5K in 60 days for a $500 bonus and another $250 bonus for an additional $2500 30 days after fulfilling the first bonus.  $750 in bonus would sure be nice, but there is no way I could even hit the first bonus within 60 days.

@julieanne912, definitely!  In fact, I've been kicking myself I hadn't already thought of getting those cards in my business name.  One of my goals for the next few days.  They generally don't do anything for bonuses, but do give you 5% off every purchase when using their card.

@vlagrl29, thanks for your recommendation.  Between you and @hoffse, I will check out the Chase business card options.

  • Update:  I ended up going with the Chase Ink for my business credit card.  I liked the $300 bonus when $3K is spent within 3 months.

On another Chase note, I had a small MM win with them on a personal card earlier today.  They sent me an e-mail that I was eligible to upgrade my account to earn 1.5% points on all purchases.  No credit check, no changing my account.  I literally just had to log into my account, click three buttons, and done!  Now I have 1.5% cash back points when before I had none (for that card).
