Has anyone ready anything by this author?  I find myself drawn to the covers of his books, but I've yet to pick one up.  I was just browsing the digital collections for my library, and one of his came up as a Steig Larsson read-alike.  Now I'm more intrigued.

Just wondering if anyone had read anything or would recommend any books over others.

Also, umm, I just googled him and he's sort of hot.  So there's that, too.

  • He's very Jason Statham like.

  • I've read the first two books in the Harry Hole series - actually listened on audiobook.  I like them and plan on continuing the series.

    Yeah, I guess that's sort of my thing. . . .
  • I've read Redbird which was the first Harry Hole translated to English. I have a bunch of the others but haven't gotten around to them. Of course everyone here in Oslo reads and loves them.

Also, I have a friend who frequents the cafe where he writes. Maybe I should join for a cup of coffee and a side of eye candy. ;)

  • Thanks guys!  I just DLed The Bat (Harry Hole #1).  I should finish The Bronze Horseman tonight or tomorrow, so I will start this one by the weekend.
  • Wish I'd checked the board slightly sooner. I was just out for drinks with one of my friends who is a huge Harry Hole fan. I'll ask him tomorrow if The Bat is a good measure of the series. I feel like I've heard somewhere that it's not so representative but I don't recall why. (I think maybe because Harry is on a short assignment in Australia? Where am I getting that idea?)

FYI for anyone reading this post at random, this is all a lot easier to take seriously once you realize (or are told by your Norwegian officemate) that it's pronounced "hoo-LEH." Not "hairy hole." :$

  • I really like Jo Nesbo. I'd start with The Snowman.

  • Also, I find it amusing that he writes humorous children's books. That seems like such a contrast against gritty crime novels! Maybe he does it to lighten his mood.

I saw that!  And they have really silly titles, like about fart powder or something.

I also saw the pronunciation of "Hole" somewhere too, and you're right, it's a bit easier to take seriously knowing the correct pronunciation.

I fell asleep before I could finish The Bronze Horseman last night, but I will start this Nesbo book in the next day or so.  I'm going away for girls weekend this weekend, but we have a 5 hour drive during which I intend to sit in the back seat and read for at least a good chunk of time.
