NMR: Doctor Appointments - 2 questions
I'm posting here because other areas of this site is a ghost town.
Has anyone here had a doctor say something inappropriate at a visit? One of my doctors made two comments I didn't expect to hear. He told me I was pretty and a few minutes after saying I am pretty, he said I am very attractive. Came out of nowhere when he was examining me. He also complimented my perfume and asked what I was wearing. Is this odd or do you think this man is just friendly? He does seem to be very nice. It just struck me as something a doctor would not normally say.
Do any doctors aside from your primary care doctor check your heart with a stethoscope?
Re: NMR: Doctor Appointments - 2 questions
My OB/GYN checks my heart with a stethoscope and my hematologist used to as well. I always thought that was pretty standard unless you're seeing a podiatrist or something.
That sounds a little creepy to me, are you getting other weird vibes from him? If this is the only time he has said it and you've been to him many times in the past, then maybe it was just a 1-time thing. If it's your first time and he's saying that, then who knows what else is to come. If it makes you feel uncomfy, I would ask for another MD in the office or go somewhere else. That would definitely weird me out but I'd have to see what happened the next time....but I always prefer female doctors anyway, because I'm just more comfy with them.
Also yes, I think every doctors office (Primary, GYN) listens to my heart, and checks BP
I think heart checks are normal! Comments not!
Heart check seems normal, unless you got the sense that he was unnecessarily touching you to do so.
The comments he made immediately gave me creepy vibes. Granted, I am kind of a prude, but I would probably never, ever want to see this doctor again, even if it was innocent conversation.
He did not check my heart but I've had non gp's do this. Looks like it's pretty standard.
I can ask for someone to be with me but staff might think it's weird.
The only male doctor that I have is the GYN. He actually delivered my sister or I, so my mom has known him for ages! Plus he's a sweet older man. But every time I have an annual apt, the assistant that comes into the room before always asks if I want someone in the room at the time of the exam, I always say no because I feel comfortable but I just thought wow, that's nice of them to offer for the people that may not feel comfortable.
But your doctor is a foot doctor! totally different! If he's being all pervy, then he may be the issue!
The last few years I've been using the same OBGYN, who is a woman. But there is usually a nurse assisting her with most of the procedure when I get a PAP smear done.
In the past, I've also had PAP smears done with a male doctor and they ALWAYS have a female nurse with them at all times. I just assumed that is standard practice in order to avoid any hint of impropriety.
However, with non OBGYN male doctors, there usually isn't a nurse present for my appointments.
I also don't think there is anything at all weird with someone going with you. Spouses often do that, but even family members or friends I don't think would be weird.
OMG!!!
