Christmas Shopping

I'm not sure if it's just because it's getting to be that time of year or if it's the 3rd trimester nesting/planning thing, but I am almost done Christmas shopping.  It's a little crazy.  In a good way.

Just this week I bought P part of his Christmas gift on zulily. (yay sales!)  I also used my Pampers Gift Reward points to order something for Lily and a giftcard that I'm not sure if I will use as a present for someone or keep for myself.  :D  And this morning I used a coupon code and my Target RedCard to get all of my nieces and nephew their gifts.  $45 for all 4 of them.  Yes!!!  Of course I'll have to add some shipping onto that since I'll have to send them their gifts.

I've made gifts for most of my family members.  A scarf for my sister, kitchen hand towels for my mom, a hot/cold rice pack for my dad.  And I bought my brother a sweater on zulily several months ago.  I also bought Lily's present from Santa at the JBF sale a few weeks ago.  And I picked up a doll on clearance at Target last week.  We will probably get her one or two more things but honestly I feel like 3-4 things from us (and Santa combined) is enough because she will be getting presents from everyone else too. I keep picking up small things on clearance or in the dollar section at Target for her stocking. The hard part this year is doing it without her noticing as she is with me when I do most of my shopping.

The only presents we have left to get are for P's mom and dad.  I have ideas for those too.  And I need a few more small things for P.  Again I have a list, I'm just watching for sales and also trying to spread the Christmas spending out over the paychecks so it's not all at once.

Anyone else already Christmas shopping or am I just crazy?

Re: Christmas Shopping

  • I think it is great you are almost finished shopping. How old are your nieces and nephews? We have 5 of them and last year we ended up giving them $20 each. So $100 just on our niece and nephews. I am very impressed with your $45. I am thinking about making our bil's family and our cousins and aunt and uncle these mugs image

  • I already got Abby an art easel for $20 and I will buy her crayola dry erase markers and maybe some more magnets for it. I plan on making her a few more pages for her quiet book and maybe getting her some cars and a play road mat/puzzle. I know H wants to get her a superman doll since she loves superman. I think we're going to do photo calendars for our parents and a photo book for H's grandparents. I'm not sure what I'll get H yet, but most likely something under $20.

  • You go ladies!!!

I haven't even thought about it.  I really want to go home this year so E can have everyone together in one room.  BUT its super expensive to go home and while we have the airline points, my parents don't.  I am trying to save up as many airline points as I can to pay for their ticket.
  • @jjbmstinco I hope you are able to go home. It is so expensive to travel.

My parents told me they may be driving down this year, but they haven't said anything to me about it lately.

  • We started on the kids. Thank you Walmart layaway! The grandparents get photo books every year so I need to get started on gathering the pictures.

I'm super excited about black Friday and I have no idea why. I don't really need to shop for much. Maybe it's just because I wasn't able to do it last year. It's more tradition then anything else.

  • I bought for my mom, but that's only because I had someone selling pampered chef, and she had things she wanted. So that's what she's getting for Christmas. Other than that, I don't even have ideas, and I should, because it's Nutcracker year. I wish I could just do photobooks this year. That would be awesome.

  • I haven't started thinking about it yet. I know some people are already done since we bought tickets to some football games and took them with us. We've done it the past few years and they love it.

I"ll probably make up a plate of goodies for Ty's siblings and their spouses like I do every year. I take the leftovers for my co workers who work on Christmas. Nieces and nephews, we usually do the Dollar Store or Five Below for them. I have two siblings, two parents, my mother in law and my two best friends to think about then.

T and I aren't doing gifts this year since we are going to Disneyland and are saving money for baby gear and whatnot.

  • Jen, I hope you can go home.  I would love to be able to visit P's family in Oklahoma but I'm not traveling over the holidays this year.  I'll be too close to my due date and P is on call thru Christmas Eve.

Megan, we have 3 nieces and 1 nephew.  Usually we spend about $25 each on them so $100 every year but this year I decided to only do $15 each.  We were spending more than the $25 each once you add shipping so I decided to just buy them something a bit cheaper/smaller this year.  So it would have been $60 but I had a coupon and a promo code and was able to use my Target Debit RedCard so I saved $23 and change.  That's why it's only $45 this year.  And once I add shipping to that it'll be back closer to the $60 mark.  And I got them all something that was on their wishlists so I know it's something they want.

I love the photobook idea.  I might end up doing that for P's parents since I haven't bought their gifts yet and photobooks would be easier than what I had in mind.

  • I wish our niece and nephews had a wish list. I don't think H would like getting them something from Dollar Tree, but I think it is a great idea.

  • I find great stuff at the Dollar Tree. But I can see where some people wouldn't like it.  I pretty much filled Lily's stocking with stuff from the dollar section of Target and the dollar tree last year.  Probably will this year too.

I'm not sure who started it, but we all do an Amazon wishlist for the kid(s) since we live in different states.  It makes it easier to know what to get them.  And with Amazon you can add items from Walmart, Target or even just add a line item describing something like a zoo membership.  Generally I've always just ordered through Amazon and shipped it to them directly.  Last year though I did the shopping in person, wrapped the gifts and shipped them because I was able to find some sales in person.

My older nieces both got board games that were on their lists.  My youngest niece got a leapfrog reader book that was on her list.  And my nephew is the youngest, he got some Melissa and Doug trucks. I was able to keep them all between $12-$16.

  • My siblings in law are cool with Dollar Tree or whatnot. they understand we have a lot of people and little ones to buy for. Especially starting next year with the baby. And some of our "cheap" gifts have been their favorites. I've been lucky with that. = )

Amazon wishlist are my favorite. We did it for our wedding and will probably do it for the baby.

  • Amazon actually has a baby registry. But I love the wishlists! That's how I'm doing my Xmas list this year, it's so easy to just hop on and add items when I think of them.
