Newly Released Books?

Hi there! Its been a while since I've posted... or been on here (almost 2 years). I haven't been staying up with books released in the last couple of years and was wondering what has been released that you liked/loved. The genres that I like are young adult, mystery, science fiction, historical fiction, some romance. Im not a fan of horror books, but do like some thrillers.
Thanks in advance!!

Re: Newly Released Books?

  • All YA -
Several of us here are loving the Throne of Glass series by Sarah Maas.

I personally also enjoyed the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor and the Shadow and Bone series by Leigh Bardugo.

The Raven Boys series by Maggie Stiefvater concludes this year.

Melissa Meyer has a series that starts with Cinder that plays off of fairy tales & is very entertaining.

If you like magic, Sherry Thomas' The Burning Sky trilogy just concluded and it was excellent.

  • Have you read The Martian?
  • Thanks for all the recommendations InLovewSB! I've read the first book of the shadow and bone and have been meaning to read book 2! The others I will have to look into! I did forget to mention fantasy and magic are also things I like to read/read about!

Talk to me about this book. I've seen a few folks on here and I know a few people who've read it. Is this Sci-Fi?

@dutchgirl76 - Yes, its sci-fi, but don't let that scare you off.  It's about an astronaut who is left stranded on Mars after a storm forces the team to abort their mission.  There is a bunch of science, and that's the biggest complaint I've heard about the book, but it's also funny, and a really unique survival story.  It's SO good.

It sci-fi in that it's sciencey and fictional and that we haven't had people actually live on Mars, but if you're thinking aliens and interplanetary warfare and Enterprise type spaceships, then no.  It's very based in reality and what COULD happen in a reasonably near future.

  • Julie did a WAY better job of answering that questions than I did.  Leave it to a librarian!  :)
