Ken Follett's Century Trilogy (ns)

I just finished the first one, Fall of Giants, about 30 seconds ago and LOVED IT!!!! I mean, I was just totally engrossed and even though it was 1,000 pages, I wanted it to keep going! So looking forward to the second.

Has anyone else read these? What did you think?

  • I stared Fall of Giants, but I didn't get very far before I had to return it.  If it gives me even half as much satisfaction that WWE and PotE did, then I know I would love it.  I loved Jackdaws too.  I just get gun shy at the length of it.

I listened to the whole series on audiobook, and it was spectacular.  I adored the narrator's Welsh accent.

I agree with packfan that the third book was not as amazing as the first two, which is not to say that it was bad at all.  I think pretty much anything Ken Follett does is amazing, and this series is among my favorite ever.  The last book was set in the 1960s-80s, if I recall correctly, so I think the fact that it was relatively recent history maybe made me more critical.

ETA: I just went back and looked at my GR review for the third book, and I gave it only 4 stars and said that the family interactions felt forced after three generations, but he did a good job of hitting all the historical highpoints.
