Overdrive

Hi all! Does anyone have an Overdrive account? My employer recently offered us a free membership and I'm still trying to navigate how the rentals/waitlists work and how I can access the audiobooks.

Just looking to see if anyone uses this website or app and has any good tips. Thanks!

I use Overdrive through my library. I remember feeling a bit overwhelmed by it at first, but I got the hang of it. I don't really have any good tips though.

Okay thanks, glad it's not just me. I'm hoping the iPhone app is more user-friendly than the website.

I think it is. Especially with audiobooks I almost exclusively use the app.

I use it more on my kindle for Library books, but yes it was overwhelming. Try logging in through your local library first. My library and I think everyone's allows you to hold up to 5 items at a time since some titles have waiting lists.

I can have 8 checked out and 8 holds.

Through my library I can have 3 checked out and they recently changed it so you can have 10 holds! Which is awesome except when all your holds come in at once, grrr.

Thanks for all the info, ladies! So far all of the titles I've tried to check out aren't available so they're in my hold queue.

That was my biggest frustration at first. The first month or two was reading so/so books until my holds came in. As long as you make sure you've got holds, you'll hardly ever run out of good books once the ball starts rolling.

Yes! We've said it on other boards, seems like most holds come up at the same time. There is a way you can extend your hold if you really need too.

I have a hold on suspension right now because I'm next in line and I'm not ready for it.

You all are so lucky. I have to play Sophie's Choice with holds when I really want something because we're only allowed 4 holds. I use two libraries, but they don't necessarily have the same things.

Finally got to using the app over the weekend. My library allows 10 checkouts and 10 holds at a time (this will probably be reduced as it gets more popular) but so far I've gotten a few good YA books and audiobooks. Lots of newer and more popular books are unavailable. Right now I'm halfway through This Song Will Save Your Life thanks to this board's recommendations.

Does anyone know how to return a book before the 14 days are up? I download to mine to my Kindle...does that make a difference? The few times I finish early I feel bad hoarding it any longer.

@dutchgirl76 I think you have to go to the manager my content/devices in amazon and return it from there. I really wish you could do it in the app! It would be so much easier!
