Naps

Oy vey.  Lily started dropping a nap here and there a while back.  I know I posted about it and how frustrated I was because it took her forever to go to sleep and it was messing with our night time routine.  Well she had gotten to the point she was skipping a nap 1 out of every 5 days or so.  Until a week ago, then she's napped once in the last week and it wasn't for long.  She also woke up so cranky from that nap, I wished she hadn't taken one.  My how the tide turns.  ;)  The plus side was her going to bed a lot earlier.  I've actually been enjoying it, when I'm not too frustrated by my cranky toddler in the afternoons.  There have been a few nights she all but falling asleep right before or after dinner and I have to keep her awake for another hour or two.  If not then she's awake at ungodly hours of the morning.

Today she decided to nap.  I make her do quiet time in her room still and she actually fell asleep.  Yay.  But she's still sleeping.  So I know she'll be up late.  *sigh* right when I was getting used to no naps.  She's definitely keeping me on my toes.

Re: Naps

  • I soon as I saw the title I thought: "a nap sounds amazing right now." haha. I'm back to having to take a short nap after work....or I'm falling asleep at 7pm and up at 3am.

Hopefully she'll fall into some routine soon. Good luck!

  • @shellyamf I was skipping naps with Abby for a while as I wrote in the last sleep related post. Then it came back to bite us because she was up all night one night from being so incredibly overtired. She has a nap almost every day now. It really stinks because when she takes a nap it is late, like from 2 or 3 until 4 or 5, and then she is up until almost 11pm. If she skips a nap some nights she makes it until 8 and has an early bedtime (SCORE) and other nights like you say, she falls asleep on the couch at 6 and is up past midnight. I think this is a really hard age when it comes to sleep. I mean I guess we could wake our kiddos up on purpose after an hour to try and get them to go to sleep earlier at night. The thing is even when Abby takes an early nap most nights she still doesn't fall asleep until 10. The only way I could be sure of Abby having a nap and an early bedtime would be to wake her up every morning at 6 or 630. I am so not in the mood to get up at 630 if I don't have to, so I don't see that happening.

I hope my post lets you know you are not alone in this at all. I have no advice sine we are having the same problems.

  • Exactly!! The only way for an early bed time with a nap is if she gets up super early and even then, that backfires sometimes.  Lily was up at 6:15 today on her own.  She took a nap from about 12:15-1:30.  I'm hoping she goes to sleep quickly when we put her to bed.

She's back to napping daily but part of that is from her not feeling well.  I wondered when she napped on Friday.  She ended up taking a 3 hour nap and still going to bed at a decent time but then she was up a lot during the night that night.  This weekend and today she's back to her normal nap and bed sleeping patterns but she's barely eating and has been running a temp between 99.5 and 100.4.  So she has some kind of bug.  She's been playing today so it definitely seems like she is feeling better.  She wasn't warm this morning so I didn't take her temp but she feels warm now so I need to.  If she is still running a temp we will be staying home from dance class tomorrow.

  • I'm sorry she is feeling sick. Abby has had a little bit of something the past week too. She had a fever for an afternoon and it went away. She's been eating terribly for the past 4 days, but ate much better today.

  • Must be a virus.  Lily is mostly back to normal with her eating and playing.  It's also put her back onto her usual nap schedule.
