  You just have to be really careful with people on Craigslist. Ask them to send references, a phone number (and call them to verify it's actually a real number and a real person), and most importantly meet with them in person in a PUBLIC area first before inviting them into your home. I've found great service providers on CL before but you just have to be very cautious.
