Are you guys done?  I am about 1/2 - 3/4 of the way done.  I still have no idea what to get DH. We aren't buying each other gifts but will each be taking Beau to get something for us. We set a $50 limit. Trying to be frugal this year since we are saving for Disney. :)

Re: Christmas Shopping

  • I'm not done but I sure wish I was.  I've hit the wall with Christmas shopping.

  • We only buy for my nieces and nephew, and my mother and grandmother get their feelings hurt if we don't do gifts so I get for them, too, but the rest of the adults are on the no gifts plan. I've done the kids so far but I'm planning to send an e-gift card for my mom unless she comes up with something specific she wants and I'm sending a plant to my grandmother because sadly she is in a rehab facility and spends her days either sleeping or watching tv. That's it.

  • I think we're about done with the kids, once DH and I each order the stuff we both have sitting in our Amazon carts right now.  I need to pick up a few more stocking stuffers for Eli, and maybe for Tate, too, but then they're done.

But that's about all I have done.

I have some ideas for DH, my dad will get a gift card or two, I have to get gift cards for the kids' teachers, something for my niece and nephew, and I have no idea what to get my mom or ILs.  I'm going shopping after my hair appointment on Friday, so maybe I can knock out the easy stuff then.

We do this with my SIL & BIL and I love it. I wish the rest of the family would get on board with it or maybe do a Secret Santa for the adults. I might suggest the Secret Santa thing for next year.

  • I'm about 3/4 done.  Most of the rest is small stuff for my nieces and a couple of Yankee Swap gifts for work.  I would like to do one more small thing for Wes, but I haven't figured out what yet.

  • Ugh I feel like I'm so behind. DH and my dad haven't given me a list of gift ideas so I can't shop. DH and I are trying to do smaller budget/not a lot of gifts so we can finally start home improvements and/or take a nice vacation. I try to shop online as much as possible, but without a list it's impossible. I did get a few stocking stuffers last night though so that helps.

We typically get IL's a Visa gift card and a spa gift card for MIL, but DH has to purchase it at the place closer to their area, it's almost an hour away or I'd just go and get one myself. It's close to his work but gives me anxiety waiting for him to do it.

Finally, we're sending all the nieces and nephews cash this year. Most of them are older so they love it. I feel a little guilty sending the 2 littler ones (8 and 5) cash, but they have so many toys and books I just can't think of anything else to buy. Let them get something later in the year that they want.

My extended family does a yankee swap on Christmas Eve instead of exchanging gifts.  We do a $25 swap and a $5 swap and no gift cards are allowed.  It's become one of my favorite parts of Christmas.

I am such a dork. lol. When I read yankee swap in your first post, I assumed it involved Yankee candles being swapped. I was thinking "The men in our family would despise this idea.". I finally caught on and then googled yankee swap. Oh, boy. Can I blame my cold medicine for my daftness today?

  • For the first time I am pretty much done. All I have to do is get my uncle and aunt something since we just pulled names for our exchange Tuesday. I have half their present just deciding if I am getting them each something else or adding a date night gift card in.

It's always unnerving to start at a new place. :)

  • I need some ideas for husband.  And my parents.  The adults in my family do an elfster Secret Santa, so we're only buying for one person.  The kids are done.  The only people who are left I have zero clues as to what to get them.

Those are the worst. Can we help?

  • I'm making homemade sugar scrub for a few of the women in my family and for some of my friends.  Just another idea to throw out if anyone is still looking for options.  It's pretty easy to make and everyone likes gifts they can use up instead of chotchkies, right?

I would love to get sugar scrub in my stocking. Bath and Body Works and other companies can charge a decent amount for that.

RiverPlate: How about scratch tickets or a membership to B&N, Netflix or another service? Would they use something like that? My Dad and IL's got Roku boxes and a Netflix memberships as gifts and they were psyched. This is slightly more personal than gift cards.

I made them last night, and the grand total was under $25 for 8 jars of scrub, including buying the jars themselves.  And it took under 1/2 an hour and the most time consuming part was filling all the jars!  I will never buy sugar scrub again.

Gosh, I need help.  I got the parents gift cards to their favorite restaurants because I had to put the box in the mail so it would get to the festivities in IL in time.  But the husband?  Nothing.  He loves sports (Redskins fan, poor guy, he's always miserable) so I'm looking to see if maybe there's a sporting event we can go to.
