POST BUDGETS HERE? hey everyone my name is Melissa and i have never joined a forum before so I'm not to sure how private everyone is on this board or if its a board where everyone shares everything! I'm going to start being active on this board to learn more about finances and i want to do better in 2016 with breaking some of my bad habits such as EATING OUT! I thought that since 2016 will be here in a few weeks , if everyone that is active would share there 2016 Budgets!

Re: do you all

  • Every member is different... some of us post full budgets, others do not feel comfortable doing that.

You should ready through some recent threads though, there's been at least a few "post your 2016" budget topic ones.  I personally budget per paycheck, not annually or even monthly, so mine wouldn't be very helpful for you.

  • Welcome! A great way to start getting involved is to post on the weekly Monday Accountability threads. And feel free to jump in anywhere else as well.

Typical monthly budget for us (I should get at least COLA and maybe more in my raise this year, but I won't find that out until January):

    Income: 5112

    Tithe: $512
    Car Sinking Fund: $100
    Gym Sinking Fund: $40
    Rent: $690
    Utilities: $130
    Cell Phones: $121
    Life Insurance: $16
    Car/Renter's Insurance: $126
    Fuel: $200
    Groceries: $340
    Toiletries: $20
Medical: $45 (monthly chiropractor visit for DH)
    Haircuts: $12
    Netflix: $8
    Date Night: $50
    Blow Money: $120 (60/each)
MISC: changes monthly to account for gifts or events we have to attend
    Student Loans: ~$2500

We're in student loan payoff mode until August 2016, so we don't currently save for retirement beyond what is required by employers. Once we have the loans paid off, we'll focus on saving more towards our emergency fund and getting our retirement contributions up.

Welcome!  You'll see a lot of budget posts, especially if someone is looking for help with their budget.  This is my "streamlined" budget.  Just my H and I, no kids.

Income:  $4700 (roughly, it varies a bit and I estimated taxes subtracted for my non W-2 income)

Mortgage:  725   (includes insurances and property taxes)

Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC):  $550, $50K balance (but pay $2500-$3000/month)

Cable/Internet:  100 (That just doubled from what I was paying...grrr)

Energy/Gas:      100 (This is about the highest it gets, some months are half this)

    Water Bill/Garbage:    50

Car Insurance:      200 (it's super high in my area), no car payment

    H and my Cell:      100

    Food:                     400

BofA CC:                 $50 minimum payment, $3800 balance, no interest until June 2016

Medication:            250 (But paid for with my HSA, already taken out of my income)

I don't include eating out or entertainment in that, but I don't do a lot of that and it varies, so I leave it off.  Not recommended for people with tight budgets.

Right now, I just shovel the majority of my excess income to my HELOC.  Though I'll shift that to paying off my one CC balance as I get closer to when they'll start charging me interest.

  • Oh!  Just noticed your name.  Welcome, Melissa.  I'm Jenny and live in New Orleans, LA.
  • Welcome to the board! Yes we often post budgets, especially when somebody has a question about theirs. Ours is pretty detailed so I don't post it unless I'm actually at a computer, which isn't frequently. If you have any other questions, ask!
