job offer question **update**
I know this was discussed a while back but I couldn't find it. Any suggestions on how to handle a job offer when you are still waiting for information from another job option? In this situation, job option A could likely be offering me a position yet this week - which if I accepted would move me to phase two - background check, physical, etc. If phase two goes well, I would then sign the job contract. I'm not sure how long all of this will take. Job option B I'm waiting to hear back from to schedule an interview. I know someone who works there and she stated that they are very interested in me. Job option B would be ideal - better pay, benefits, etc.
I'm not sure how to handle this. I'm still waiting for H to get home so we can chat.
Re: job offer question **update**
Option B: They have had my cover letter and resume for a week. They are accepting them the rest of this week. The insider/friend I know there has worked there for several years. Her boss is HR. She has told HR and the supervisor for the position I'm applying for, that I would be great for the job. I'm hoping they would call early next week to schedule an interview. My friend said I have "more than a great chance" at getting it. They want two years of experience, I have over eight. They are looking for two people to fill to identical openings.
Option A: They are looking to fill two identical openings. I don't know how fast I would need to make a decision. I was trying to figure out how I could professionally and politely delay it a little.
Overall, I don't look at my next job to be short term so this is a big decision that I take pretty seriously.
I have a "mentor" and she also suggested that I ask for extra time to decide.
I would take job A if job B wasn't an option. Job B is estimated to be approx $6/hr more per hour (when broken down), full time position, better 401k match, better health insurance coverage and better paid time off.
Job A is part time, no health insurance. Currently we have coverage through my H but from talking to my fiend, job B has some great coverage options - one option would give us the opportunity to drop H's coverage and save some money.
I know no one can tell me exactly what to do but it's really helpful to run this by others. I definitely don't want to make any negative impressions.
The other thing I guess to think about, is how much loyalty would job a expect from you since it is a part time position? If you accept it and work there for a month and then job b offers you the position, I guess I would feel a little bad about that, but it's a part time job.
That's a hard spot to be in, definitely talk it over before you accept job a!
Good luck!
