Book withdrawal (Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover)

Ugh. I finished reading Ugly Love this weekend and I was sooooo sad as I got to the last few pages. That book really gave me all the feels; it had me in tears in parts and I could barely put it down.  I love books like that where I feel like I get really connected to the characters and the story. As soon as I finished I wished I hadn't lol.  I was really distraught that there was an epilogue that summed it all up too, I was really hoping for a sequel or something.

So now I feel like I'm in withdrawal and I will never find another book I love as much as that one.  Dramatic, I know, but I get this feeling everytime I read a book that I fall in love with. My husband laughs and thinks I'm a huge sap for getting so into my books.

Anyone relate to this? Also suggestions for my next read are welcome!!

Re: Book withdrawal (Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover)

  • I really liked this book, but I my flaw with Colleen Hoover is her extremeness with her twists.  Like it can't just be some mild secret, it has to be a HUGE life altering, almost too painful to read, twist.  I'm often exhausted by the end of the book, though I don't often find it cathartic.

Or maybe I'm kidding myself? I've read almost all of her books, so I apparently keep going back for more.  I did love Miles though. Yum.  Did you see who's playing him in the movie?  He's BEAUTIFUL.

  • OMG!!! Okay so apparently I've been living under a rock because I didn't know that a movie is in the works!! How awesome!! And Miles... wow...  I wonder if they'll keep it in the same order with the flashback sequences or change it for the film adaptation. Thanks for sharing!!

I agree with you about the emotionally exhaustive plot twists in her books, but I also keep going back for more lol.

  • Umm, I remember reading this book and liking it, but can't for the life of me remember what it is about. Off to GR to remind myself.

  • I think I will actually go see this movie. I'll get my sister to go with me.

  • I always hope that the actors they choose for film adaptations match what I envisioned as I was reading.  I don't really have a solid image for Tate though.

Sidenote: I feel like Colleen Hoover also has a habit of picking unconventional names for her protagonists. Tate, Layken and Ridge for example.

  • I've had this from the library on my Kindle for so long, but I haven't gotten to it yet.  I've been renewing it but then I keep reading other things.  I guess I should pick it up.

I'm currently reading The Nightingale for another book club, and we're supposed to discuss just the first half after Christmas and I'm already 73% through.  Maybe I'll set it aside and read Ugly Love now.

Probably not a bad idea so that The Nightingale is fresher in mind for your discussion. Ugly Love was a pretty quick read for me. The audiobook version is pretty good as well.

  • I started last night.  I'm only about 10% in, but I'm already completely sucked into this book.  This is only me second Colleen Hoover book, but I think I like her.  Maybe she's one of those authors that you just have to space out her books, because there is a certain similarity to them with the extreme plot twists and life-altering events.  Kind of like how Jodi Picoult is so formulaic.  Her books are great, but you can't read too many in a row.

Bingo! I think you've nailed it.
