Do you have any fun or yummy food traditions? Something you make every year or grew up with?
I grew up eating potato soup and chicken tenders and fried shrimp for Christmas Eve dinner. The chicken was for the kids while the adults had shrimp and lamb fryes. Eventually I switched to shrimp but not the lamb fryes. Since getting together with Paul, I've continued the potato soup tradition. Although I went for more of a cheesy bacon potato soup for us. This year I had to find a dairy free version and it's not bad. And I guess I get to continue the chicken tenders for my kid since I know she won't eat the soup.

I remember doing a lot of holiday treats as a kid. Chocolate bark dipped pretzels, caramel corn, and other goodies. My mom stopped doing all that once my brother was born. While still in Oklahoma, I started making a Ritz cookie that tasted like a Reeses and several different kinds of cookies always including chocolate chip ones for Santa. I also love making sugar cookies and the peanut butter cookies with the Hershey kiss in them. I can't wait until Lily is older and can help me do all this baking. (I generally would take it to work and give it away to family and friends.) This year I'm making dairy free sugar cookies. P has requested chocolate chip cookies for Santa, but I think it's unfair to make cookies that only P can eat. Not to mention I made an entire batch of them for him right before Thanksgiving. And that was torture not being able to have any. So maybe I'll try to make some dairy free chocolate chip cookies???
And last but not least my favorite holiday dish is green bean casserole. I just found a Vegan version today meaning dairy free so I'm going to try to make it. Hopefully it's at least close to the original.
Re: Holiday Food Traditions?
We have a ton of traditions. I think most of them revolve around food. Typically we have French onion soup, ham, relish, veggie, cookies trays on Xmas eve. My favorite thing in Christmas Eve is making peppermint ice cream balls and putting a birthday candle in the middle. We sing Christmas carols while they glow and then sing happy birthday to Jesus and blow them out. Kinda funny because I am not religious now as an adult but still love that memory and am planning on doing it with my kids. Then we stay up late play games and then at usually midnight or one make a Christmas tea ring for the morning.
Christmas Day we wake up and have yummy breakfast. Then mid afternoon pull out all the dips, chips and veggies. Famous dried beef dip is all the rage. I was mad this morning because my stepmom, sister and I baked cookies and made the beef dip. She sent me home with a bag of it and I left it sitting out on the counter overnight
Then we typically have Omaha steaks, mashed potatos and salad for dinner.
I am changing a few things this year. We were planning to go to FL to see my mom and GM, but with D we had to cancel our flights. We are staying home. Having ham and scallop potatos for dinner Xmas eve. Cookies and peppermint ice cream balls. Then Christmas Day I will make cinnamon rolls a egg casserole thing and then put on a pot of gumbo for later in the day.
We are still trying to figure out a Christmas dinner tradition. I think it will end up being ham. That's what I'm making this year and what P grew up with. My family does several main dishes (there are usually a lot of us to feed) so trying to narrow that down for just out small tribe is hard. P requested lemon meringue pie for dessert this year. I like lemon meringue but I'm a cherry pie lover. I would make two pies but with the cookies that might be over kill.
