I got really excited about this book.  It was on my TBR list, but I saw it was a Goodreads nom, so I quickly got on the hold list.

I really liked it!  I felt it was a little predicable, but in a good way.  Though, I was really surprised by Maven.  I didn't see it coming though I'm sure there was a ton of foreshadowing.  I'm interested to see what they'll do with Cal.  Early on in the book, I thought it was kind of obvious that the love interest would be Cal.  I know she got into him for a bit, but I'm curious how it's going to turn around for him to be more like the rebels. And obviously Kilorn rounds out the triangle.  I'm a little less thrilled about the triangle, but I don't hate it either.  I was also pleasantly surprised by Shade's appearance.  I think he's going to add some spice.

  • I'm guessing this isn't Philippa Gregory's The Red Queen about Margaret Beaufort, mother of Henry VII, right?

  • Haha, no.  I'll clarify my post so I don't spoil it for everyone!

  • Ah, ok. :D I was so confused, but my brain isn't functioning today.

There definitely was not. I thought this was a really cheap twist at the end that honestly didn't even make a lot of sense given the way the story-world is built. And I'm good with love-triangles, but I did not like this one. It was more of a square, for one thing, and it just didn't leave you with a clear picture of the role of any one of those guys.

I didn't HATE this one or anything, I was just really not impressed with the writing. I might read the next one when it comes out just to see if things get better, but I'm not that excited for it.

  • I'm such a blind and careless reader so I always assume I missed some foreshadowing.  The comments about he's just like his mother were kind of what I was thinking of, but he surprised me.

I don't disagree about the characters being a bit one dimensional.  Gathering that Kilorn and Cal would be her interests, I was surprised at how much more I was getting behind Maven.  He was the only interesting one.

I'm more interested in Farley at this point.
