I finished Modern Romance . . . (NS)

and I was a little let down.

I feel like maybe I was expecting more humor, or just that my expectations were too high.  I liked it; it was interesting and I learned a few things (such as: I'm really glad that I'm not single and trying to settle down right now, it all seems so complicated), and overall I'm glad I picked it up, but I wanted more funny.

I don't have another audiobook lined up right now - any recommendations?

  • I think if you aren't really sure that it's a sociological/humor book it can be a let down.  He's definitely funny, but it's heavy on the science which is definitely unusual for a comedian.

I'm listening to the third Selection book on audio right now.  It's brain candy.

I DON'T suggest you read Beautiful Disaster.  I finished it yesterday and I actually yelled out OH COME ON in my car yesterday it was that eye-roll worthy.

Beautiful Disaster is a book that can still make my blood pressure soar even though it's been like four years since I read it.  I HATED it.

I knew it had some bad reviews, but the ratings were so high that I gave it a shot.  First half? It was decent.  A little angtsy, but nothing terrible.  But OMG the second half made me want to strangle them both.  His anger/abusiveness and her flightiness and avoidance made me rage. And her tattoo? OMFG.

  • I have this on my TBR but waffle back and forth over whether I want to read it. I AM single in this day and age so I don't want to feel depressed and discouraged.

  • Pinky, you might actually enjoy it more, because maybe you could relate better?  Some of the things he was talking about, I just don't really know anything about - online dating, tinder, endless text exchanges, etc.  My DH and I have been together for 16 years, since college and there wasn't really any of that stuff back then.  The book generally is not a bummer of a book.  It's interesting - I was just expecting more of a humor book, I think.
