Monday Accountability Post

Just realized we didn't do this today.

1) How MM was your weekend?
2) Any progress toward goals?
3) How much would somebody need to offer you to make you move from your current residence?  Timeline to move is 30 days :)

  • 1) How MM was your weekend?
Not terrible.  I got paid Friday so the weekends afterwards are usually a bit spendy.  Spent $98 at the grocery store, but that included a new skirt for work (yes, my grocery store sells clothes).  It was on clearance for $15.  Also stocked up on vitamins.  Spent around $50 at Petsmart on dog food and treats.

    2) Any progress toward goals?
    Moved $150 to savings.

    3) How much would somebody need to offer you to make you move from your current residence?  Timeline to move is 30 days
Hmm, probably $550k.  I'm so used to moving that it wouldn't be a big deal to move in a short time frame, but we'd need around $550k to get something better than what we have now.  We've joked that we could sell this one and build another one on the other side of the subdivision where they're putting in new lots right now, that way H could get his RV garage.  But we'd lose our mountain view over there.
  • 1. My weekend wasn't bad- I barely left the house. Dh on the other hand was on a boys weekend to see a football game and on top of everything else, his battery killed itself (it probably needed replaced, but the freezing temp finally did it in) so food for his weekend was $120 budgeted (if he went over then it was pocket $) and a new battery was $120.
I ended up spending $30 on pizza for myself, my sister and an aunt and uncle who stopped by.

    2. Nope. Although we got word on Friday that we are good to close on the 20th!!!! So the mortgage on our current residence should be paid off by the end of the month :) we could have closed early, but the buyer didn't want to- I'm betting she had already asked for some time off from work and didn't want to change it, and I don't blame her at all for that.

    3. Considering I'm having a csection in 3 weeks, like 10 million! It would have to be some absolutely astronomical number to convince me to pack shit up and get out of here. Enough for me to hire everything done, and find a nice move in ready house in the same neighborhood. (Mind you our house is worth probably around 325, so that would be absolutely astronomical!)

  • 1) Ours was kind of spendy, but all budgeted.  $200 on groceries - a big chunk of that was buying a flank of filet at Costco though, and we got 16 steaks out of it (woot foodsaver).  $14 on a haircut for H.  $33 seeing star wars at the imax last night.  I'm not a star wars fan, but even I have to agree it was an amazing movie.

    2) Nothing this week - more like opposite of progress because the market has been so bad this past week!

    3) Minimum of $400K to move right now.  Maybe $450K to move in 30 days.  This actually happened to a guy I work with.  Random dude knocked on his door and offered so much, he said, "Sold" before even talking to his wife.  And they were out in 30 days!

  • 1) How MM was your weekend?
    - Not bad. $22 on groceries. $10 on a new scarf. H spent $28 eating out, but it was on a gift card. And $858 on our Vegas trip, but that was budgeted. Kind of.

    2) Any progress toward goals?
    - No paycheck this week, but we got a really good deal on our Vegas trip. We pulled the trigger earlier than expected, but we extended our trip by a day and saved $800. I'll call that a win!

    3) How much would somebody need to offer you to make you move from your current residence? Timeline to move is 30 days
    - Honestly, if someone would pay what we paid and cover our commissions to make it as if we never bought it, I'd move in a heartbeat. We don't have buyers remorse necessarily, but we bought too much house. I still really like our house, but more than 60% of it sits empty and unused. It's just kind of wasteful for us.
  • 1) How MM was your weekend?
-It was okay. $100 on groceries for the week. $25 for a birthday gift for my daughters preschool friend. $5 at Chuck E Cheese with my daughter. We ate out on Friday, $22. The majority was budgeted.

    2) Any progress towards goals?
    -$500 to savings.

    3) How much would somebody need to offer you to make you move from your current residence? Timeline to move is 30 days.
-Probably $250k. Our house is worth $210ish right now and would be worth $230 with upgrades. We don't love our house and REALLY don't love our neighbors/yard. I also don't love the size of our house, I want to downsize from 2200 to 1800 because I can't keep my house clean. We will likely sell in the next 1-2 years and we've only been here a year.

  • 1. We're still recovering after the holidays and reality hit that we've been spending too much and need to buckle down. So, we spent very little this weekend, less than $20 on a bottle of wine and a six pack of beers. Otherwise we ate at home and stayed at home.

    2. Nothing this week, or really next. And yeah, the market. Bummer.

    3. $250,000. Bought in 2009 for $169,000, appraised for $185,000 in 2015. We aren't really 'stuff' people so we could move easily and quickly, but I do love our cozy little house!

  • 1) How MM was your weekend?
Medium?  Sort of spendy but necessary/in budget. Friday night we got take out $40 since we needed to take the christmas tree down and pack up all the decorations. Saturday we were at a funeral all day so that saved us from spending any money (although our cleaning lady came while we were gone so that was $70).  Sunday we went out for sushi $50 & coffee $6 in between open houses, since we were 30min from home and had time to kill.  We usually eat out once a week max so that was out of the norm but we will balance it out.

    2) Any progress toward goals?
We have stayed on track or under on where I would expect in our budget, so I am happy with that.  We got hit a bit in a market which we haven't cared about except with the home purchase on the horizon that was suppose to be some of our downpayment money (we are still fine, but its annoying).

    3) How much would somebody need to offer you to make you move from your current residence?  Timeline to move is 30 days
hah! We are renting an apartment so doesn't apply.  But I would move in 2 days if they gave me a cash offer for the amount we want to pay for the house we are putting in an offer for
  • 1) How MM was your weekend?

Good! $118 on groceries, H spent $40 on a tool table/cabinet (amazing deal!)

    2) Any progress toward goals?

Not this week. Staying on budget.

    3) How much would somebody need to offer you to make you move from your current residence? Timeline to move is 30 days :)

We're actually trying to figure that out since we're looking to list in the spring/summer!

Not bad. We were out of town to visit DHs extended families on each side. We ended up only paying $56 for the super 8 because SFIL's sister works there. We budgeted $100 for the weekend, so it was a big savings. Then $13 for lunch on the trip and $92 on groceries and $10 on toiletries. We stocked up on pork loins because they were 50% off, so we've got 4 in the freezer.

    2) Any progress toward goals?
A little over $1000 towards SLs, $100 to the car replacement fund.

    3) How much would somebody need to offer you to make you move from your current residence?  Timeline to move is 30 days
We rent, so I'm not really sure how to answer lol! I guess we would want about $34k for down payment and closing costs on a house plus the cost of breaking our lease. Of course that's more than we could be gifted, soooo, idk. I think we could probably stay with my sister or maybe stay in the rental house in town that my parents are trying to sell until we were able to close on something. Not much out there in our little market right now, so hopefully this hypothetical is going down in the spring!
  • 1) How MM was your weekend?
Not bad. We spent most of the weekend lounging around the house. $18 for drinks/dessert, $23 for breakfast one morning. Not really the weekend but close enough to make it count -- yesterday morning I bought 3 pairs of work pants from Express clearance which was $77 with shipping.

    2) Any progress toward goals?
Nothing out of the ordinary. Just the usual.

    3) How much would somebody need to offer you to make you move from your current residence?  Timeline to move is 30 days :)
$230K.. That would give us enough money to have a decent chunk for money down on another house.  I'm not attached to my house so 30 days wouldn't bother me. I will miss our water view when we eventually move. :( Realistically our house is probably worth around $205-210K
  • 1. $16 Gas, $60 Target, $17 Panera, $80 dogs monthly meds

    2. $100 to vacation, $250 to savings

    3. Ugh we just moved in! LOL. We owe about $200K, so I would need at least $350K to cover all the costs of doing this whole process again...not sure I'd even want the hassle, plus I love our house and don't want to give it up! It's perfect for us.

  • 1.  We would have had a pretty MM weekend-just $20 on beer for guests coming over-but then we were offered the chance to buy face value Pats/Chiefs tickets for Saturday and said yes ($200 total).  I know most of you will have no sympathy for that decision, but maybe if there's any other football fans around you'll absolve me a little.  We only go to a game every couple of years, and are pretty good at not spending money once we're there, so it shouldn't end up too much more than that for the total experience. It can all be cash flowed with minor budget adjustments.

    2.  The first of the several charges on my Care Credit account will be paid off today.  This one expired in April, while our other charges don't expire until October.

    3.  Even though many would consider our house a starter home, we truly love it and it's a great fit for us.  Therefore, I'd need enough to pay off our current house and then put a lot down on a significantly nicer house in our city, like a 4 BR historic colonial.  Maybe $500,000?

  • 1) How MM was your weekend?
We have had a lot worse. H worked on Saturday - I went double couponing at Harris Teeter. spent 48 dollars there and 30 at target. Sunday we spent another 45 dollars at Lowes for our bathroom project. This is amping up to be a lot more then we thought for one tiny bathroom. But a lot of it is one time tool costs - i think we're going to be waiting another year to do our master bath tho. I'm glad we started with the tiny bathroom.
    2) Any progress toward goals?
not yet but we are on track budget wise to pay off H's car this month. Funny how refusing to stretch this into February will make us stick to a budget for once!
    3) How much would somebody need to offer you to make you move from your current residence?  Timeline to move is 30 days.
1 dollar. I would do anything to be able to move in 30 days! I live in the middle of no where and i'm stuck here for atleast another 5 years.
No seriously we would need atleast 135k (paid 130k 4 years ago)for the house and then atleast 25k in a down payment for the next so 160k. Although another 75k to pay off my student loans would be amazing too!
Just give me enough to pay off our home and enough of a down payment to get a conventional loan on a 250k house and you can have it.

It was good- groceries ($116), gas ($20). I have been looking into getting a higher end sewing machine so I bought a Bernina 530 using my local shop's 12 month/0% interest special.. it's amazing! Total game changer for piecing and quilting ($2,500 and will be paid off in December).
    2) Any progress toward goals?
$500 went to savings, $3600 was removed from our vacation fund to pay for Disney!
    3) How much would somebody need to offer you to make you move from your current residence?  Timeline to move is 30 days.
Right now, our house is worth about $200,000 so I would say $300,000 - especially for the 30 day turn around. We would end up moving DD#1 to a new school district and DD#2 to a new day care so we need quite a bit extra to make that worth our while.

  • 1- Not bad.  We were in an arctic blast over the weekend so we stayed inside most of it.  Went out to dinner Friday - $14, monthly target trip saturday - $115, lunch out saturday - $18

2- Finally get back to goals.  $75 in savings and $75 in retirement. gigs are coming in again - booked 2 on sunday.

3 - just thinking about moving exhausts me. lol.  House was bought for $195k and I have no idea what it appraises for but I'm going to go with a minimum of $250k. Its fully paid off so any extra would be nice.

Haha, great, we didn't spend anything.  But that's because I have been super sick since NYE and spent all last week lying on the couch barely able to move.

    2) Any progress toward goals?

HA again!  I got paid last week, but wasn't at work to pick up my paycheck or pay my mortgage.  I'm finally paying it today...only 12 days late, lol.  My dirty MM secret for the month.  At least late fees don't kick in until the 15th.

    3) How much would somebody need to offer you to make you move from your current residence?  Timeline to move is 30 days

My house is worth around $250K, but I love it.  We have put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into it since we bought it.  They would really need to overpay for it, to the tune of $350K, or at least near that ballpark.

Oddly, I got a phone call about 4-5 months ago asking if I wanted to sell my house.  But they didn't give me a number.  I'm pretty sure it was a real estate investor and I know those people don't overpay for houses.  I explained to the guy that it was my primary home and I really liked it.  I told him it wasn't for sale.  Then I laughed and said I shouldn't be too hasty.  If they wanted to throw $500K at me, I'd take it.

A friend's uncle owns a few acres of land in La Jolla, CA.  La Jolla is a ritzy suburb of San Diego and on the coast.  You don't get real estate much more prime than that.  He regularly has developers clamoring to get his property.  He's even had companies just give him a blank check and tell him to write his price in.  Doesn't matter.  The money means nothing to him and he has zero interest in selling.  He tells everyone they can bug his heirs once he's gone but, as long as he is alive and kicking, he's not leaving.

Heh my mom spent her high school years in LaJolla.  Back then it was just a far out suburb.  My grandparents built their house there (like literally my grandpa built it himself with a bit of help).  They had a view of Mission Bay.  They sold that house 25+ years ago but I can't imagine what that place would be worth nowadays.  My great aunt also had a home on the side of a hill overlooking the ocean, you could whale watch from her living room.  She was a photographer for National Geographic.  She sold it awhile ago and a developer tore it down to build a McMansion.  Too bad, as it was an awesome mid-century modern ranch home.

    1) How MM was your weekend?
Good.  Friday we used a coupon to eat at Noodles so it only cost $10.  We would have spent more but H forgot his wallet so we had to use the cash I had on hand.  We ended up adding chicken to only one order and then sharing the chicken.

Saturday $4 for city parking to attend a wedding.  Oh my.  If I would have posted the details of this wedding from the FB invitation on TK, I think I would have made TK explode.
We did not attend the pay for your own lunch "reception" because we were already committed to a party.

Next stop was an annual Christmas party with friends.  $5 for ingredients for party food (potluck) and $20 for a gift exchange game.

H and I were the only couple that did the $20 gift exchange as a team and I'm glad we did it that way instead of as individuals because it was fun to participate but more MM to only spend $20 total instead of $40.  And the gifts were a mixed bag.  Some were real duds.  We ended up with a hard cider/root beer 6 pack and a couple of other things including an adult coloring book (that we don't want).  I googled the coloring book and am optimistic we can return it to Target to get some cash for it.  Assuming the return works I'm pretty happy with a 6 pack and some Target store credit.

    2) Any progress toward goals?
We had a BnB guest arrive on Sunday so that will help with bills and staying the course this month.

    3) How much would somebody need to offer you to make you move from your current residence?
I would sell for a $50K or so profit.

Edited to clarify wedding and Christmas party were 2 separate events on Saturday.

Wait, wait.  I'm trying to process this.  So there was a "pay for your own lunch" reception (that you all bypassed) and, on top of that, $5 dollars needed to be "donated" for the rest of the party food?  I hope all the gifts in the exchange were worth $20.  And this wasn't another money grab where each gift cost more like $10-$15 and the excess was pocketed.

I know I'm preaching like TK, but whatever happened to couples just hosting a lovely reception themselves and not expecting their guests to subsidize the party?

Oops, poor spacing.  Event #1 was the wedding ceremony with a cost of $4.  Then we left (not attending the lunch) to go to a separate event #2, a friends Christmas party.

We have the Christmas party every year for our group and it is always a potluck.  My potluck contribution cost $5.  And we did the gift exchange for $20.  Everyone was supposed to do $20 value if they participated.  I'll go back and edit my original to fix this!
  • Oh!  Okay!  That makes a lot more sense and brings back my faith in humanity, lol.

    1) How MM was your weekend?
Not MM at all, but it was all budgeted and planned for.  We went to the Upper Peninsula to spread my brothers' ashes with 17 other friends and family.  It meant renting snowmobiles, staying at a lodge, and eating out for 4 days.
We budgeted $3,000 just to be safe, and we ended at $2,250.  The weather ended up not being so great, so we had to drive further north to rent snowmobiles and ride the rest of the way up.  So we took off 1 day of snowmobile rental, which was $550 a day.
    2) Any progress toward goals?
The $300 in cash we came home with, will go into H's Roth. The rest of the savings will help buffer this months' income.
My work switched me from salary to hourly, then decided to argue that I owed them for my extra days off last year, that I had told them not to pay me for but they did anyways (they and I had been keeping track of them).  So I worked 14 days in this payperiod, but they deducted 56 hours because they paid me for 7 days I didn't work in 2015.  It wasn't discussed until January 4th, so it really messed with our budget for this month.  I'm not happy.
H also will not have any overtime this month, so we don't have that buffer either.  So our goal this month is to try and pay everything without dipping into savings, but I don't think it will happen.
    3) How much would somebody need to offer you to make you move from your current residence?  Timeline to move is 30 days
Our house appraises at $115k, but the market value is around $90k.  Our area isn't very sought after, and the income level is low.  So if someone offered us $120k, I think we would take it and go.  The house is paid for so we wouldn't need to worry about breaking even with the mortgage.

    1) Not great but not terrible.  Friday DD2's ear drum burst so we had a doctor visit and prescriptions, co-pays were $25 plus another $18 for a probiotic they want her to take to counter the prescription side effects.  Saturday grocery shopping was in budget and Sunday we got the kids Happy Meals with our spending money, $7.

    2) None

    3) We live in a rental so I don't know!  I'll say $5,000.00.  That would be my minimum because after moving costs we could pump up our savings accounts.  I'm not sure it's worth the hassle though.  If they gave us say $100,000 I would move in 1 day!

Just realized we didn't do this today.

    1) How MM was your weekend?
    2) Any progress toward goals?
    3) How much would somebody need to offer you to make you move from your current residence?  Timeline to move is 30 days :)

Ya know, for those of you who rent, it is not unheard of for landlords to sometimes buy tenants out of their leases.  Though usually the tenant is still under a lease with a good bit of time left, not month to month.

You'll most typically see something like this come up either right before or right after a property is changing ownership.

    1) Ours was kind of spendy, but all budgeted.

Wow!  I'd move if I got 150k over what we paid.  I need to account for all the work we already did, plus the fact that interest rates are higher than when we bought.  Plus closing costs on a new house and the fact that we'd probably buy a slightly more expensive house.  Not to mention I love the area we live in.  I could probably be convinced for $100k though.  ;)

Lol, I figure $100K over what we paid is probably the "convince me" threshold.  $150K would prompt a faster move.  $200K or more, and I would probably sign the papers whether I had talked to H about it or not!

  • I'm a little late to the party.

    1) How MM was your weekend?  Pretty good.  Groceries, gas, dog food, etc.--all budgeted.  I think we might have spent a few dollars on Amazon Prime videos, but that's it.

    2) Any progress toward goals?  Just the usual auto contributions to our various savings accounts.

    3) How much would somebody need to offer you to make you move from your current residence? I'm going to say $250K.  It's valued at about $130K, but we really love our cute little fixer upper.  Plus, since we bought our house, prices in our area have skyrocketed, so we would not be able to buy an as nice/nicer house for what it's actually worth.  So, to make me quickly leave my cozy little house and have to buy an overprice house somewhere else, I'm gonna need a lot of incentive :)
  • Everyone is so conservative on the third question! I love our house and we're slowly renovating it and making it our dream home, even though I'd love a house that was just finished and done already. I'd need $1.2 million to move period, maybe a little extra to expedite it. That's the amount that would (1) pay off our current mortgage and (2) allow us to buy a completely finished house in our city in cash. I think the trade-off for selling my memories is that I never have to have a mortgage again!

I think I would totally feel this way too if my house was our "forever" or even long term house. But we purchased our house knowing we would only want to stay 5-10 years. It's looking like we'll be around the 7 year mark before we start actively looking in 4.5-5 years. If I was in love with my house I think I'd have to have a number more similar to yours. :)

Maybe it's cause I'm in the real estate industry, but I've never been so attached to a house that the right $$ amount couldn't make me move.  I see new houses that are awesome all the time.  Even our current one, which we built to be our "30 year" house, I'm not totally attached to it.  Maybe that'll change once we raise a family in it or something.
