Back after a hiatus

Hello all my MM friends!

Isadora Beverly arrived 10 days early on Thanksgiving, she was 7lbs 2oz and 18.5 inches long (from a MM standpoint this meant we had to pay an extra month on my higher premium health insurance plan...oh well!). I've been home adjusting to our new normal and finding a time to sit down at a computer has been difficult, and I was never really good a mobil nesting. Everything has been going well, she is a real sweetheart, and my recovery has been pretty easy (though I did end-up injuring my rectus-abdominal muscles so I have some frustrating PT-rehab work to do before I'll be back running, cycling, and dancing).

I've got about 4 weeks left on leave, which I'm expecting will absolutely fly by!

I'm looking forward to getting back into checking in here!

...now to catch-up on some of the more recent threads...

  • Congrats I'm glad everything went well!  How did you injure your abs?  Take it easy and don't push yourself.

We just finished our OB interviews for a future VBAC.  We will start TTC in a couple months and once we start TTC we will tour our top 2 OBs hospitals and then make the choice - I will also start interviewing Doulas.  I'm really feeling on top of things already this time around.

the ab injury is common in pregnancy, it's called diastisis recti, it's a separation of the connective tissue that runs vertically along the centerline of your abs. It can get injured just because of stretching during pregnancy or during pushing...unfortunately they can only test for it when you're not pregnant, so it's unclear when it happened. fortunately, my injury was pretty minor, a section about 3 inches long and 1-2 finger widths wide, but enough that I'm getting basically no support from my abdominal muscles so my back hurts most of the time and I feel pretty clumsy when I'm trying to be active.

I know you do a lot of yoga, I was fortunate to have a knowledgeable chiropractor throughout my pregnancy (she specializes in infants and prenatal women so sees a lot of diastisis recti), she cautioned me against doing anything resembling a back bend and not to do anything resembling a crunch or plank, I think had I not had that advice my injury likely would have been worse (I'm inclined to think I did it while pushing).

Also, I loved having a doula at our birth, best $450 I could have spent.

I'm honestly surprised I didn't get that when pregnant with DD.  I got a hernia from her just right above my belly button and pushed for 3.5 hours resulting in c section.  I think it will be best to keep the core strong during pregnancy and listen to my body to not push myself.  I know some advanced yogis that back bend, drop back into wheel all the way thru 9 months and then go right back into doing yoga 2 weeks later no big deal.  God I can only hope for that to happen to me next time. lol
