Not Really MM-- Scratched boots

I'm hoping someone can help.. MIL got me a really cute pair of gray riding boots for Christmas, but unfortunately when I took them out of the box they were all scratched up and discolored in some places. I looked online and Macy's is now sold out of my size so my chances of an exchange are slim, but I'm going to try after work today anyways. If I can't get another pair does anyone have suggestions for getting the scratches out? Material is leather upper, and then it says man made sock/sole.

Thanks!

Edited because words are hard when I haven't finished my tea...

  • I always get my boots waterproofed and polished at a shoe repair place before winter hits (we have a handful of super old school places here.. one even makes custom shoes for people). They might have a solution or can buff out the scratches.

  • If it's a smooth leather, go to your local shoe store and get some gray shoe polish. You can either use a rag or a shoe polish brush to apply it. Apply in a circular motion & then let sit for a while so the polish can be absorbed. Then using a soft clean rag to shine the boot up or a shoe brush. I have some leather clogs that are probably 10 years old and every year they end up getting pretty scuffed up looking. I polish them up & the look like new again.
  • Thank you @cbee817 & @erikan73... I'll try both of these if I end up keeping the boots. I'll be heading to Macy's after work to see if I can do an exchange. :)
  • Or return the boots and go see if they are on Zappos or Shoemall online.
