Let's talk BDB. NS, please. You wanna?

So I saw on my GR's feed, that a new book about Rhage will be coming out.

The Beast (Black Dagger Brotherhood #14)

I haven't even read The Shadows yet.  I haven't picked up Blood Kiss either, which is the start of the Black Dagger Legacy books.  Have you guys read any of these books? What did you think of them? How do you feel about the direction that the series is taking?

  • I'm just going to come out and say it.  I think I'm done with BDB.  I'm not longer excited about the books, and I haven't really enjoyed the last few.  I thought I would be excited about the legacy series, since that was the only story line in The Shadows that intrigued me, but I think the series jumped the shark for me around Payne's book. I was even a bit disappointed with Qhuay's book.

I think @Lauren620 has similar feelings, but I think we might be in the minority.

No, I was kind of feeling the same way too. I think that's why I have put off reading The Shadows. It just doesn't appeal to me the way the older books did, which makes me sad. :(

  • I think The King was the last one I read?  It was a while ago.  For me, it was one of those series (as the PNR series often are for me) that was easy to get addicted to as long as I could binge read them.  Once the next one wasn't released yet and I couldn't put a hold on it from the library, it dropped off my radar completely.
I really don't like it when authors take characters to the Nth degree.  There are so many series (not just PNR) that started out as amazing, must-read books, then the author/publisher/whoever makes these decisions just won't let it die.  So instead of a wonderful series of maybe 3-5 books, you have an exhausting library that never ends and they either get stale or repetitive or both.

  • The series started out so good (I think the first 8) but the last few books have been major disappointments.  She keeps bringing in a bunch of minor characters and focusing on them and I just don't care.  I will probably read this new one eventually but I'm not going to be standing in line to get it.

  • I haven't read this series yet, but I felt similarly about the Sookie Stackhouse books.  They just went on for too long.  I LOVED the first 3-4, I enjoyed the series up until somewhere around book 7 or 8, and then I just couldn't anymore.  I ended up giving all my books away to a friend.

Also, are those really the guys' names in these books? Rhage, Payne, and Qhuay?  Weird.

Qhuay is a mix of Qhuinn and Blay(lock). They were the MCs of one of the books.  Yes, the rest of the names are just like Rhage and Payne.

Sookie, Stephanie Plum, House of Night, Vampire Diaries, Kate Daniels, City of Bones, Blue Bloods.... for me, these all started out as binge reads but I just ran out of interest long before the series ended and never finished any of them.

  • I'm over BDB.  I couldn't make myself finish The Shadows and have no desire to read another book about Rhage and wet blanket Mary.  This is really sad because I had some serious love for the brothers and now I'm just not interested in them anymore.

Ha!  That is the best way to describe Mary.

  • I continue to read them. I've really enjoyed some and really disliked others. Overall, they're quick, fun reads.
